Sigh. I wish they could sell it in NY

It's almost worth it to drive to Jersey...almost.

I bought this at the DC Costco on Valentines Day. I don't have a super refined scotch pallet but wasn't wowed by this offering. YMMV but generally all Kirkland-branded impulse buys release those borderline SD price mist@kes endorphins and this one just released buyers remorse.

Whiskey aficionado here. This is typically very, very decent juice for the money. Admittedly, these Kirkland offerings can be a bit hit and miss, but they are always good value. I have had some bottlings that punch way out of their weight class and some that are just decent, but I have never regretted a purchase. You will not find good 18 year old single malt scotch that this price point outside of Costco and, occasionally, Trader Joe's. Buy it.
Fully agree. Their 18 and 21 year changes frequently and I've bought 10-12 bottles over the last 8 yrs.
Grea value, assuming you enjoy the casks type etc.
I think most folks would enjoy this one (very slightly sweeter side)

How would you compare it to oban 14 and lagavulin 16? My current two favorites and about the most I want to spend on a bottle of alcohol.
For whisky basics, it's difficult to compare the different whisky regions as the regions will offer different tasting notes. Oban is Highland which will offer more of a dried fruit and some smokiness, Lagavulin is Islay and known for full body, smoke and very peaty. This Kirkland 18-year is Speyside which is more on the vanilla and honey tones with hints of fresh fruits and some peatiness.

The Kirkland 18 year is worth trying at this price point. Sounds like you're more in the peatiness though. You may like Ardbeg, Talisker, Laphroiag,Bowmore and Peat Monster (this one is interesting) if you haven't had those. Not sure of the price points.

Does Costco normally not sell their great priced scotches at the Florence location?
I only recently started shopping at this location after a move, so I unfortunately have no idea what they have and haven't carried in the past.

They do... not sure if they have that one right now but theres a Costco in Oceanside, Long Island that sells Kirkland brand liquor. Thats the only one in entire NY i believe... or at the very least NYC area. If you happen to go and they have it, let me know.

Sounds like a great buy, for what it is. I'm a scotch drink and usually the higher end and worth shot, no pun intended, unfortunately in NY Costco doesn't sell liquor, just beer and wine. : (

Any scotch aficionados that can chime in on the quality of this? Was thinking about gifting this to a friend who's a heavy scotch drinker.
This is an amazing bargain. Give a blind taste test and this will easily outperform any scotches at this price range.

This stuff is pretty good but my neighbor and I prefer 18 year Dewars. Costco has it for $43 on sale sometimes. Pretty much the best we have had under $200.
