I am not sure, if it will work for everyone or even will be considered a good deal. But sharing it as it worked for me pretty well. I am using two lines with T-Mobile Connect prepaid at just $10/month (for 1000 mins of call and 1000 text and 1GB of data). My non-US 4G-LTE device had stopped receiving signal on the sim last week. When I contacted the customer care, they told me about this offer (as I was not interested in getting any expensive device).

The offer:
- On adding $150 to my prepaid account as balance up-front, either one of the following two phone can be picked up for free:
Moto G Pure: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...0214671042
Samsung Galaxy A03s: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...0214672964
- Basically you just pay tax amount (for my case it was ~$9 in MA)
- The $150 balance can be used for subsequent monthly recharges for any number of lines within the same account - in my case I have two lines with a consumption of $20 per month - which I was anyway paying.

YMMV - I am not certain that this is available everywhere. Also, these are not super powerful devices spec wise. But since I anyway had to pay for prepaid service monthly and also since the devices can be unlocked after 120 days, it worked for me nicely.

Thank you for the very detailed post!

I've personally really enjoyed the T-mobile Connect (pre-paid) plan. Of course YMMV with the signal/reception - but I really enjoy not having to pay an arm/leg for cellular service.

On another note, I've enjoyed the Moto lineup of phones. They have some unique features (i.e. making a chopping motion with the phone to turn "ON" the flashlight) that I've become dependent on!

Thanks again!

Can be unlocked after 120 days post activation. In my case I already have active t-mobile connect prepaid lines and will be using the device for at least 120 day period (4 months), so its a good deal.

Any way to verify this before adding the $150? Would suck if you added the money but aren't eligible.

Its a prepaid service, no contract. You can always add more money to it to continue the service or terminate.

I thought you lose the line if you don't keep it alive at the end of each prepaid period.

I wonder if swapping the sim card to non-4g LTE device will trigger the offer?

I think for tmobile connect they wait for 30 days after last recharge is exhausted, before the number is released but i am not 100% sure.

This appears to be the offer, but it is presented differently than in the OP's experience. Perhaps this offer works for $150 on any prepaid plan, but that is not what the T-Mobile webpage states:

https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/home

About halfway down the page:

Choose a FREE Samsung Galaxy A03 or moto g pure.
Buy three months of unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data on our most popular plan—just $50/mo.—and choose between a free Samsung Galaxy A03 or a moto g pure.

Free Device: Plus applicable tax. Limited time offer; subject to change & while supplies last. In-store only. Must purchase eligible device & $150+ of qualifying service in same transaction. $10 SIM starter kit may be required. Not combinable with some offers or discounts.

Do you get slower data speed after you use up the 1GB ?
Is it $10, or taxes, fees additional?

No. No internet after 1 gb is exhausted. But you can add $5 top up to get additional 2GB instantly for the remainder of your prepaid cycle.
Taxes are additional if you recharge every time manually or like in the case of this offer, you pay tax when you add balance upfront and no additional tax until you have balance in account.
