Amazon has these back in stock again at $390 for anyone interested .. very easy to upgrade, you could do a $41 stick of 16 GB ram
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C511..._lig_dp_it
and upgrade the existing hard drive to a bigger 1 TB one like this currently on sale ($80 but apparently supposed to be a really good one )
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MFZY..._lig_dp_it
or alternately.. or in addition to.. the 1 TB primary "windows/C drive" upgrade just install a 1 TB crucial MX500 ssd drive (currently on sale for $52) and make sure you save all your files and/or install other programs (will work fine for installing programs on it too) and just leave the installed C/Windows drive alone

see also this thread for some long walls of text I posted
.. if you have the time and patient to read through them it describes my experiences with upgrading a laptop very similar to this one

laptop asin number is B09J1MXS2Z
stick of ram is model number CT16G4SFRA32A by crucial but also amazon asin number B08C511GQH
crucial mx500 1 TB ssd drive is amazon asin number B078211KBB
SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB is model number MZ-V7S1T0B/AM (I think), amazon asin number B07MFZY2F2
although in all fairness there are people who would post that you can get away with a cheaper 1 TB m2 primary C drive and they're probably not wrong I tend to go on the paranoid side with hardware upgrades
I was told on the acer user forum support website by a guy who has a very good reputation on there (high "ranking" plenty of posts voted very helpful and so forth) that he most ram this series of laptops will support is 24 GB so probably best off with just the 16 GB stick of ram
Again please see the previous slickdeals thread I linked I have a lot more info on my upgrading experience with this kind of laptop
" Acer Aspire 5 A515-45-R74Z , but refurbished from Acer with upgrades.

First of all, I checked all the laptop processors based on the benchmarks, but leaned towards a Ryzen. The price point of the Ryzen 5 5500U (2.1GHz-6 core 12 thread) was a clear winner based on performance and price point. Acer is a solid company and so is the Aspire line. The best price was to buy a refurbished unit from Acer with a 5% coupon for a total of $331. I added in Crucial RAM-16GB DDR4 3200MHz (CT16G4SFRA32A) for $51 on Amazon for a total of 24GB of memory. Then removed the low end WD Blue 256GB NVME ($24 on Amazon) it came with and added in the Samsung EVO 970 Plus 1TB for $89 from Amazon. Benchmark for the EVO 970 Plus was read 3420MB/s and write 3494 MB/s. Idling, the EVO 970 plus sits at 31C...blazing fast speeds and a cool run temp.
So in total you can make this for $471, almost the same price as new and get some serious upgrades.
Also Windows 11 is a downgrade in my book, so I just did a clean install of Windows 10. Boot time is about 6 seconds and shut down is 2 seconds. You just cant beat this for the price point.
Battery life seems a little lower than expected, but its not a deal breaker for me. "
