If i were him i wouldn't return the LG just yet, but if he were curious about the HP, buy it, test it, make sure it's good, and if he's satisfied with it, THEN return the LG. these HP's sound good for the price but from what i'm hearing you're playing the lottery on some b grade panels.
I replaced an LG UltraGear 32" QHD 140hz with this one and have no regrets.
