I read the solar is pretty hokey at this point and not a substantial factor in battery life. I would go with the non-solar for $300.
Is the PRO version going for $300? I would probably go for that one myself if you have a link.

$350 for a black and white display watch? Black and white display watches went out in the 70's. Garmin engineers need to get off their asses,
1. It's not black and white. Not sure why you need color to tell the time or any of the data you want off the watch. 2. This is an old model so yes they "got off their asses"

I'm been using a Samsung Watch 5 Pro for my needs.
I don't know anything about Garmin, but would like to try it, especially for running.

Any recommendation for an entry level one with color and touch screen? Many thanks to all of you.

An extremely over-simplified answer is; Garmin is a GPS industry giant providing equipment for many/most aeronautical and nautical equipment that has a firm hold as (arguably) the industry leader when it comes to a variety of devices that utilize science and health metrics to give the most acceptable and accurate fitness and health tracking features/software available.

These are health/activity trackers first and smart devices second. That is absolutely perfect for my needs and wants but some people like to be able to watch movies on their phones or make phone calls or whatever other unnecessarily cool features smart watches can do. It all depends on what you place an emphasis on in your life. Samsung provides health and fitness metrics with their devices but that doesn't mean they are good at it. It just means they have it as feature sets that are secondary and complementary to smart features and not the other way around.

There is no right answer here for what works best for you but if you want the best, most accurate metrics and data for training purposes, Garmin will trump Samsung.

Look into the Vivoactive line of watches for some of the most elegant blends of both worlds that Garmin offers

This watch is super heavy!

I use the Garmin 755. I think it has been replaced by the Garmin 255.
People always say that, not sure why but FYI it's approximately 85g, that's 3oz!

I would say the bigger issue to consider is it's bulkiness over other smart watches.
It catches more often which you will need to get use to.

I had my solar watch outside in DIRECT BLAZING SUNLIGHT on a perfect blue sky 80 degree summer day for 7 hours and it increased the battery 2 %......not even worth the solar benefit IMHO

Are you sure you are not thinking of the "black and white" display on the Garmin INSTINCT???

Boys and girls: this is not a smartwatch nor a golf watch.

This is a fitness watch with some smart functions.

It's like crying about a sale on a Mack Truck and saying "this isn't very fast and gets lousy gas mileage."

If you want to chat with your friends thru your watch via TXT or play video games on your watch or have touch screen with pink colors then look elsewhere.

These are for athletes and outdoors people; training, exercise and adventure.

If you don't understand why a smartwatch would cost this much with mediocre capabilities then grab a Fitbit or Apple Watch and carry on. If you worry about how many steps you get per day, then Garmin ain't for you.

Cheers. Love my 6 Pro.

First you say it is not black and white then you ask why I would need color. Black and white shows laziness by the designers.

I think you should stick with apple or samsung watches, end of the story.

Can google assistant be used with this?

Detecting a lot of defensive sensitivity here, who cares if people don't like or appreciate it?

No, Garmin's have limited smartphone capabilities- They can only receive phone notifications (text only) and sync your health data.
