I have this soundbar. I don't love it. Disclaimer I have very high ceilings in my basement.
The wireless sub drops for about 60s every hour. I can't say that I've ever heard the surround speakers but I assume they work. The atmos "feel" is nonexistent.

Can't recommend.

Total newb to this stuff, but how does this set compare to the recent Yamaha bundle from bestbuy:

Like are they even comparable? I am considering returning my Yamaha set because the wiring is too complicated and I don't want a bunch of wires all over my living room.

If this is anything the companies typically have it's simple to setup, plug sound are to arc/e-arc port on tv, plug in power for soundbar. Move subwoofer to another part of room and plug in to power, typically the other two speakers will have a single cable to connect to the subwoofer. Overall very easy setup and decent sound, the Yamaha will 100% have better sound and less distortion but that's the trade off when using wired vs wireless and saving $450

recently thanks to hdmi and ARC and modern day TVs, standalone receiver setups really are not much more complicated than soundbar setups. They just seem like it because of the tons of other connections and buttons you have. But that is a good thing. It will last longer and you can upgrade and customize and fine tune your setup.

If the TV is all you really are using the sound system for, then the only additional steps of the receiver to the soundbar is physically wiring the Front and center speakers. Because in both the sound bar and receiver, there is some kind of physical wirin and connecting youll have to do with the rear and sub.

But in fairness, the reason soundbars were made are for consumers like you who find recievers complicated.

But learning curve is as easy as ever compared to previous. But youll always have an inferior setup if you go soundbar compared to a similar standalone reciever/speaker setup

5.1.2 on the soundbar shows that there are two upfiring speakers in the bar itself..The Yamaha has only the typical 5.1 which does not support Atmos..If you are not looking for atmos, this bar is for you..the power is low on the speakers, but it would be fine for a small room and a Netflix Atmos show

Personally I would go for the more simple setup of the soundbar and wireless surround. I have a 5.1 setup with receiver and a soundbar setup. The 5.1 receiver speakers hands down better sound but its too big and clutter. The soundbar setup does the job if you are just looking to have a bigger punch and louder sounds than a TV. For movies and such the sound bar setup is sufficient for me.

Does it also support hdr10+ passthrough or just standard hdr10/dv?

Are the surrounds wired to the subwoofer, or are they wireless with just a power cable?

I can't comment on that specific one but after two bad vizio TVs (their flagship 75" ones) and having a 3.1.2 vizio soundbar I will never get another vizio product. To each his own but the software on my soundbar is buggy. It doesn't always turn on with the eARC and lately they updated the software and my subwoofer recently got a major boost and is overpowering even with it at the lowest setting. I have to turn on night mode (which never saves) every time I turn it on just to make it not overpowering. I HATE my vizio soundbar.

Again it's to each their own but 0 for 3 so not taking any more chances when there's so many other products out there.

Thanks for sharing.

I'd listen to this poster.

Vizio has notoriously bad software.

The volume level at the lowest for their soundbars is too loud. Night mode doesn't help in my TV area.

Buggy glitches galore.

Just stay away from Vizio.

Too bad, the darn setup sounded pretty well and loud, when it worked.

This is why I'm staying away from this MP setup as well. I can't have faith that their software would not have glitches.

If you're spending more time troubleshooting than enjoying the product, the money saved isn't worth it.

I think there was an error (missing information) in the section you quoted. The section right after what you stated shows 25 watts for up firing and then the main page description states upfiring centers:

DRIVERS
Soundbar L/R: 2x 2.5"
Center: 2x 2" Up Firing: 2x 2"
Subwoofer: 1x 8" down firing cone
Surrounds : 1x 2" cone each
