The point of the Cloudtec isn't cushioning anyway. It's (allegedly) energy return. I say allegedly because I've never been able to measure a difference using my watch. The only shoes I've seen a measurable difference in my performance are the Nike Alphafly and Vaporfly which gave me exactly the 2% improvement in efficiency advertised (at an astronomical price). But I'm getting off on a tangent. You asked about comfort.
I haven't tried this exact model, but in my experience On shoes are a pretty universally firm ride (both because of the speedboard that On insists on using in every single one of their products and because Helion foam still doesn't quite match the best foams out there such as Zoomx or DNA loft 3). But this can be a good thing for speedwork/tempo days. Even here, though, I've noticed that the Cloudtec really forces you to run a certain way. It favors heel strikers who roll forward and really use the entire foot with each stroke. FWIW, my favorite On shoe is the Cloudflow. It's their second lightest (I think) non-carbon shoe after their Cloudsurfer/Cloudracer. And mine has a killer blue gradient finish. Not ugly at all.
Maybe give these a try. You can also return them or sell them if you don't like 'em. They seem to hold their value pretty well on ebay and other secondary markets.
