I've been running my home network on Alien HDs since this model was released in May 2020. Two Aliens connected by ethernet cable to run in backbone mode has provided excellent service for all indoor and outdoor devices. I wish this model was Wifi 6e compatible, but it simply wasn't a standard nearly 3 years ago. This model was released when the initial Wifi 6 standard (IEEE 802.11ax) hit the street. The Wifi 6e standard allows access to the 6GHz spectrum, in addition to the normal 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz spectrums that this model and others use. The 6GHz spectrum would primarily help 1) for close range, large data bursts of up to 1GB of speed and 2) by providing 4x the available channels which would help with signal saturation by nearby neighbors. It also would require that your endpoint device (desktop/laptop/phone) also have Wifi 6e-compatible hardware. Perhaps this is an inventory clean out ahead of a new model release, but $100 off per unit is a great deal for a great unit.

my cheap router outputs the max bandwidth most isps provide, about 400-600 mbps. if you need a gig just hardline and save yourself 300$

I also have had this for 1-2y now. And sure it's great. But so is my ancient AirPort Extreme combined with a modern $99 TP-Link access point; I get around 500Mbps with that combo at my parents.

I have the Amplifi HD - not the Alien but from the same company which also makes the enterprise grade Unifi networking gear. I would recommend Amplifi products - people seem to only look at speed but I have more than 70 devices that are connected to the network from all over the house and my setup with Amplifi has been rock solid for multiple years without any weird issues connecting between smart home devices, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, moving seamlessly between endpoints. In addition, it comes with a fantastic VPN feature that allows you to establish a VPN tunnel through your home network when you are traveling. Sure, cheap routers will give you some feeds and speeds thrills. But not many alternatives that beat these for stability and "it just works" simplicity.
