I don't know much about knives but my Dad bought me a Spyderco that I carried with me in Afghanistan and I loved that knife. Thanks for the post.

I don't get it. I'm already verified with ID.me, but when I sign in to Spyderco, it asks me for all of my details including service dates and SSN. WTF?

Actually no. It's not just for veterans. First responders, active military, medical professionals, EMT.

But that's besides the point. When I access other merchant programs with ID.me, I just log in to ID.me from the merchant and that's it. That's the point right? ID.me is the "trusted" organization that "verifies" to the merchant that I am who I am, that I belong to certain groups, etc...

Probably bc Idme covers a lot more than veterans? Just guessing since this is specific to vets apparently.

Don't worry if there's a glitch at the moment. This has been around for years with Spyderco, and isn't going to end or go away anytime soon.

ID.me does cover other users besides veterans but you have to understand how it works. It doesn't just send the merchant a note saying, "Yup, that individual is one of our members." They actually send a verification that you are a vet, if that's what's being requested.

If you're not a vet, or if it's just an ID check, they will only send that information. The IRS uses it as well, for example.
