On a related note, and for many of the same reasons, it's also terrible at setting the crossover point. It always sets it too low, then people change it, and the poor phase match between the mains and subs introduces large frequency response nulls.
It will happen to any RC & it will not fix any of those.
Being able to manipulate your results is a main benefit to better RC's like Dirac,MultEQ-X,etc.
I don't know anyone that doesn't make changes to the results with these better RC's.
Adding Audyssey's app to XT32 opens up some beneficial adjustments that are well worth its weight in gold IMO.
There are threads with hundreds of posts , on AVS forum , speaking to the very topic of tweaks for Audyssey to try to fix the post calibration imperfections
Dirac( or ARC), are more challenging to initially set up, but neither seem to require the myriad of tweaks to try to correct the calibration fallacies you get with Audyssey
It's not needed with most modern receivers, but it increases the flexibility and use options of the subwoofer.
For what content?
And open to what volume of space?
I'm interested in doing just that. Could you send a few urls to get me started? Thanks!
12" woofer. $200
500 watt power amp. $200
Plywood, screws, paint, glue. $150
So maybe you save 50 bucks, but then you have to factor in time.
Now if you aren't married and want to build a massive 18" Marty Sub, that you could do for maybe $1K, which would save you some money. But no wife will allow you to have one.

In my own system using both the results were very similar so I didn't have to make "A LOT" of tweaks.
Especially when you consider the cost difference, Editor app cost $20 vs the cost to get Dirac $1200( no bass management).
I definitely did not hear a $1180 sound difference.
Another great benefit with the app, if you want Dirac tweak(ability) for much less you can get their MultEQ-X for $199.
Your final results will be extremely similar, especially when you take into account the price difference IMO.
My Prime Pinnacle floorstanding speakers match seems to be PB-4000s :|
Anyone match PM-2000s with these speakers?

But I understand..you do you
The financial statement is a moot point unless you are considering a replacement, of any type, in the first place

If you read S&V's review on Pioneer's 505 they found it "similar" sounding also.
I disagree on the financial part, most people looking at those threads are at least considering a replacement.
With those opposing opinions, do you want to pay $1200 for "similar" results makes it very relevant.
Especially true if you can add the Editor app or MultEQ-X to your current AVR for much less.

Being able to adjust the frequency range and mid comps are a benefit also.
Not to mention saving multiple measurement files & switching out easily from the app!
For me the 3800 is very intriguing as a pre/pro, works very well as one.
If you go to AVS you can see how well it holds it's own against dedicated processors especially when you consider the price difference!
If I could get a new one for under $1k, it may be too hard to resist!

When you speak about the MCACC from Sound and Vision I assume you saw the rest of the sentence where the reviewer said he " could not make a meaningful comparison" between the RC systems?
But again...were you considering MCACC or have you been mentioning Audyssey this whole time?
If someone is considering replacement then your statement about the $1200 ish upgrade is a moot one
But again...that is speculation anyway
I dont understand how MCACC is coming into play here since it was never mentioned
Again..I can find a myriad of reviews that say Dirac is better than Audyssey
There pages of AVS forum reviews, A few custom installers that post here and a myriad of you tube A/V guys that all agree
But like I said before
If you think Audyssey is better ..then you do you
Not even sure where the MCACC subject came from though....

My HSU vtf2 is lot more clean with its variable control. I can adjust it for music or slightly less clean but more powah for movies. For that reason i like hsu more than svs
