Personally, I have no problem with a company trying as much as possible not to have to deal with returns. They are costly, and people abuse the process right and left. I read people here on SD who talk about buying 10 laptops, trying them all, and then returning 9 of them. I don't know why these companies allow people to return like this.

Personally, I have no problem with a company trying as much as possible not to have to deal with returns. They are costly, and people abuse the process right and left. I read people here on SD who talk about buying 10 laptops, trying them all, and then returning 9 of them. I don't know why these companies allow people to return like this.
I was selling refurbished dell laptops on eBay about 10yrs ago, when 2 days after I had shipped a $800 laptop from the east coast to the west coast, the buyer asked "do I offer a student discount", I replied "no, I'm not a corporation, I just buy and resell these Dell laptops to supplement my income. He said, "well I don't want it then". I said "that's fine if you don't want it, but I already shipped it to you, and there's a 10% restocking fee which was clearly stated in the listing to cover my free shipping cost, and basically pay for my time to list and deal with all these ridiculous emails. Long story short, I sent EBay customer dispute service all the email exchanges I had with this guy, my listing clearly stated a 10% restocking fee, but none of that mattered. eBay immediately sided with him, froze the PayPal transaction, and gave him a full refund before I even received the return.
Luckily the buyer was somewhat honest, and actually sent the laptop back, but he could've just as easily sent me a box of bricks, and I don't think eBay would've done a thing to make it right. That was the last time I ever sold a big ticket item on eBay. I guess what I'm saying is, it's really tough for the little guys to compete in the low margin reselling game, when people just return items for reasons such as "you don't offer a student discount".

NVME enclosures let you have as much storage as you'd ever need for doing actual work off of one. The best deals are always on base models.
