Are you saying you can generate Platinum referral from a different type of card, like everyday card?
Yes -- Amex allows cross product referral depending on the card you have

Its the same link -- near the top of page or on left side you should see "view all personal cards" or "view all business cards" which should show other cards you can apply for using same link

Just make sure they don't use the very top menu where the Amex logo is -- use the referral menu so you still get credit

My BCE link takes them to current BCE offer and the page shows:

Amex logo | My Account | Cards | Banking etc. <--- do not use
Your Referred Card | Personal Cards | Business Cards <--- ok to use for other cards (you'll still get credit)
Blue Cash Everyday Card

Got to get the $695 back some how, I'm not sure how. Can someone explain how that fee is justified against 125K-150K points converted to much more then $695.

Checked to see what my account had:

Platinum card, it's usually 80,000 but like others currently crossed out and showing 150,000 plus the $200. Details showing are $6000 in purchases over the first 6 months, and that the $200 is via statement credits over the first three months if applied for by 6/7/23.

Delta skymiles, usually 40k and currently 70k skymiles. $2000 spend in first 6 months.
Marriott brilliant, normal 95k bonvoy points, $5000 spend in 3 months. Nothing unusual.

At least, that's what is showing on my account.

Ends up being a coupon book but worth it for 1st yr:
  • $1500 bonus pts -- you can get some gift cards at face value or use on travel (cash and some gift cards give less value)
  • $200 bonus statement credit
  • $200 Uber or Uber Eats credit (keep card 13-14mo so more like $215-230 depending on timing of annual fee)
  • 3x $50 Saks Fifth credit (2023 1st half + 2023 2nd half + 2024 1st half)
  • 2x $200 airline credit (2023 + 2024) might be able to get regular airline credit if some tricks still work
  • $200 hotel credit (might benefit)
  • $20/mo streaming credit for some services
  • Free Walmart Plus membership

And you can also get potentially a LOT more than $1500 out of the points if transferred to airlines- especially if booking premium airfares.

So beating the AF by quite a lot, for the first year anyway, is trivially easy.... if you can keep making it worthwhile after that is a lot tougher unless you happen to get near full value out of the various credits (or a good retention offer for year 2)

Get the gold card offer 90k points + $200 statement credit. Essentially makes the annual fee $50 ($250 annual fee-$200 statement credit)

4x points on dining and supermarkets

$120 Uber credit ($10/month)

$120 Grubhub Credit ($10/month)

It's a much more straightforward card with a nice sign on bonus. For most people this is a better card than the Platinum

The only reason I keep a platinum is for the lounge access. For frequent travelers that alone is pretty much worth the annual fee. Otherwise you have to take advantage of a bunch of different perks and offers to make it worthwhile. Kind of have to jump through hoops where with the Gold it's pretty simple especially if you already use Uber/Uber eats and/or GrubHub

You might get a retention offer by calling to cancel or using chat -- some people got offers for $200-$550 bonus for spending a certain amount if they kept the card another year

Google "amex retention offers 2023"

Thanks. Will go that route soon and see if there's offer.
