Why not use it at other stores that offer 10% or more? Amazon is getting worse and worse.

I believe it just depends on what people are looking to buy. Sometimes it is Amazon, sometimes it is Lowe's (at 15% off on gc's), other times it is HD (at 10% off on gc's).

I chose Amazon because I haven't seen the extra 5% before. As mentioned above, there are a bunch of other choices including Walmart at +5% as well.

Just an FYI on the 5% at Walmart, the second quarter of 5% cashback for Discover includes warehouse clubs. I typically buy the Sam's gift cards at Sam's Club and just use them at Walmart.

Don't forget you can also buy Costco gift cards at Costco.com and pay with Discover to get 5% cashback.

If you have Amazon credit card (which you must, if you were able to qualify to Discover), you get 5% on your Amazon card without going through hoops.

I fail to see deal here.

What does this mean? What does Amazon have to do with qualifying for Discover?

Just redeem for cash and go to grocery stores or drug stores and buy amazon gift cards. You'll get 5% that way.

Discover is known to have had tougher lending standards in the past. If you can get a Discover card you can get Amazon card from Chase. Once you get it, you will get 5% on every Amazon purchase. I have both.
Like others have noted numerous times in this thread, Discover points are better spent elsewhere. 10% and even 20% on stores like BBB. Even gas cards were there at some point with $5 off $75.

Agreed. I only use my points for the 15-20% discounts.

if you have a prime card, using this deal is no use. Prime card gives you 5% back while using gift card doesn't.

If you have an Amazon CC which gives 5% back, this is pretty much useless.

Discover has been the issuer that I tend to recommend to new people building their credit profile and most of the time they get approved. Easy to ask for credit limit increases and lower APR.
