Would this be a good co-op for me and my 8 year old?

The co-op for this game is one person controls Mario and the other controls Cappy (Marios hat). Not really the typical co-op you'd think, but would suggest Super Mario Bros U Deluxe which is currently $39.99 for digital at Walmart.

That game is a remake of the Wii U version where up to 4 players can be on screen so would be working together independently.

edit: I still would suggest Mario Odyssey, it was a really great game!

Agree with this. The Co-op is a similar mechanic like you saw with the Co-op in Mario Galaxy.

But the game is a tremendous 1 player experience and allows a second spectator to join in if their main interest wasn't necessarily to platform but to help out while enjoying watching. I've used it when the wife wanted to just watch and it was cool that it exists but I prefer to control Cappy tbh.

Personally think 3dWorld and Luigi's mansion 3 are both better CoOp options but Odyssey is the best game out of all the ones mentioned.

I play this with my 6 year old - he controls Mario and I do cappy. It lets me drop in and out as needed - which something I need with another 18 month old running around.

Anyone who has a switch should have Odyssey. It's probably my favorite game of all time...it's got so much depth, nostalgia, challenges and in general is just fun. I'm going to be sad when I finish it.
