IMO the introduction and evolution of outdoor Bluetooth speakers has really taken a chunk of sales from these wired outdoor speakers especially the battery powered Bluetooth speakers. I have hardwired backyard speakers and powered by indoor older Yamaha receiver with separate Bluetooth receiver hooked into it. Sounds awesome but I also have a monster tailgate battery powered speaker that it seems gets more and more usage in my back yard activities. I can just wheel it outside turn it on and instant music! My wired outdoor speakers stopped working on one channel and I am in the process of finding where the short circuit is but at this point am debating whether to spend even more time fixing the issue or just let it be and use my powered outdoor Bluetooth tailgating speaker all the time now.

I always prefer to have multiple outdoor speakers compared to one large speaker. It's a lot more hassle to install and not every setup can justify it, but it does allow you to have conversations near and far away from the speakers as the sound is better distributed with many small speakers. It's a luxury, you're going to pay for it in speaker count, installation, and wiring. Everyone has to evaluate their situation.

I've also got the AW650's. Paired with a solid stereo amp playing HD/Hi Res songs through wifi definitely gives much greater detail. I've got some really good bluetooth speakers that admittedly sound good, but there's still no comparison really. Plus you can place your wired setup correctly for good imaging, kick back in your favorite chair and bathe in beautiful stereo.. I have them setup in our courtyard and It's bliss. I love when I go out there it's already set up and ready to go . Bluetooth speakers are great for the beach, and even the back yard in a pinch. My favorite is the Aiwa Exos 9.

I agree with you. The hassle of having to wire, connect to a receiver, then possibly another source is a headache. The flexibility of Bluetooth speakers is best. I use Soundcore and they are amazing. You can pair them together for that surround effect
Not really just hook em once and done
Then airplay instantly and get better quality music everytime

Wired works better if you have an outdoor tv in addition to music. With wireless the delay with tv is unacceptable but wired you can live with it.

What's so special about these as opposed to something like the Yamaha that was $100 last week
I bought the $75 Yamahas. Just plugged them in yesterday for an indoor test before mounting. They're not great. Sounds like nothing below 150hz. I'm debating returning them to BestBuy.

No. These are traditional wired speakers. You need an amplifier/receiver to power them.

I completely enjoy my outdoor wired setup connected to a sonos amp that is inside. Same idea as bluetooth only with wifi so no distance restrictions so long as I can see my router.

Agreed. Wifi means I can control the music from my phone, but I don't have to worry about staying within Bluetooth range. Also means that my wife and kids can skip a song or add something to the queue from their own phones. This works the same for us whether it's the small wireless or larger wired system.

Yeah, but once you have an outdoor setup in place, it's hard to beat if you set it up properly. All I have to do is open Spotify and pick my backyard speakers. It's hard to beat that level of convince, and like you said, they sound better!

I have some AW-650s and they sound absolutely incredible! One of the more surprising aspect is the low end bass response/output. Don't know how much you would loose with the smaller 5.25'', but I wouldn't hesitate trying these out for a smaller space. Look into the smaller class D "Chinese" amps on amazon (SMSL/Loxjie/etc) if you need to add Bluetooth and/or don't already have a system to hook these up with. TBH, I run an Alexa/echo device though my SMSL amp for an even better bit rate/song quality vs Bluetooth.

Most people love my taste in music lol.

In all seriousness, you get some who don't appreciate the "noise", and others that like to request a favorite song. Different strokes. But like it or not, when you're out in public you're going to run into all sorts of people with different ideas of what's a good time. Might as well dance.

Bluetooth goes where you want it. Wired speakers sound better but always seem to be played at lower volume.
