My wife and I take turns putting the account in our names every 2 years. We just alternate.

You're right. The standard plan doesn't include unlimited data. Most states have a 1.2TB/month soft data cap -- some North Eastern states are exempt from that data cap I believe. From what I understand, users who go over the data transferred per month are given one warning if they go over it the first time. The next months if they do go over the limit, they'll get charged something like $10 overage fee per 50GB, maximum of $100 overcharge fee. See: https://www.xfinity.com/support/a...ceed-usage

However, I am seeing that the Xfi Complete addon is available for $10/month extra bringing the total costs up to $35/month. For $35/month this plan still seems worth it with unlimited data and higher upload speeds (for select regions [reddit.com])***.

If anyone is going with this plan, I do recommend getting this "Xfi Complete" as it unlocks unlimited data caps (as opposed to 1.2TB without it), and it also unlocks upload speeds which for me tested out to be around 115Mbps, as opposed to something much less like 10Mbps without. For me, this add-on is essentially a required item.

For anyone's existing network setup, I actually didn't have to configure and/or make much changes to my network settings either. With Xfinity's gateway, I just logged in and switched to Bridge mode, which essentially made it a modem-only and then connected my router via ethernet wired, and everything worked as per my previous configuration I had with my previous internet service provider.

So I am currently under a 1-year contract, with 8 more months to go. If I cancel my existing service, I will be charged an ETF. Does anyone know if the following will work:

1). Change the existing plan from "contract" to "no contract"

2). Cancel the existing "no contract" plan/service. I am assuming that I won't be charged an ETF, but am not sure

3). Sign-up for this new 200 Mbps ($25/month) plan using my existing account credentials

I am hoping that if I do it this way, I will avoid paying the ETF. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Update:
I was going to wait until the existing service stops, however I could find menu "activate your modem" on the Xfinity app. This only appears after sign-out, and sign-in again to choose the newly set account within the existing comcast ID. Then I did the activation by adding some code of my modem/router. DANG, now my speed is 200/10 instead of what I had previously. I believe comcast will charge me pro-rated

In my case, activate modem in the app did not work because I was trying to use my own modem which was already linked to my account that I requested for cancellation. I called the customer service and the agent removed my modem from the old account and reactivated on the new account.

Anyone able to get Xfinity phone/chat rep to apply this promo to your account as existing customer non on contract? Just trying to avoid having to cancel and resubscribe if that's not necessary. THanks.

I'm currently with Xfinity but not on contract. Planning to sign up P2 as new customer. Do I need to cancel P1's service first? Or will signing up P1 as moving to this address automatically cancel P2.

I have my own modem and router. Anything I need to do with those for seamless transition?

If you want unlimited, you will have to use the XB3. In any case, you'll need to cancel the old service. You should be able to activate the new service with your old modem before canceling. This should prevent loss of service. If you use the XB3, and your router, you can set the XB3 to bridge mode, which may be easy or not, depending on luck or skill.

I looked at our family's monthly usage (no gamers) and it's only been around 300 GB/mo. I don't think we'll have a need for unlimited data.

If I'm using my own equipment, will signing up for new service (P2) automatically cancel existing service (P1)?

I think activating will trigger a cancellation email, but I would call them or go in to the store. I had to return the old flex box. And got a receipt by going in.

I just did it this afternoon. Called to cancel it first then signed up the $25 deal online using the hotspot from my phone with a different email address right after. Downloaded Xfinity app to activate my old/existing modem. Everything works now. My $59.95 800 Mbps internet has been replaced by $25 200 Mbps internet for the next two years. The whole thing took about 15 to 20 minutes.

Thanks guys.

Since old modem is activated on your account it will have to be removed before it will work on new account.

Best thing to do is order with free gateway and once activate it on Xfinity App previous service is automatically disconnected (call to confirm if need usually sends email) Since only allowed 1 active account per address.

Then wait few days to activate your old modem.

I personally use the Rental Gateway for xfinitywifi hotspot as secondary network since it gives you different Xfinity IP Address at 30Mbps and data doesn't count toward monthly usage on xfinitywifi hotspot.

I believe the gift card offer is region specific the northeast region only since they have better deals and unlimited data included.
