I just got the denon X3800H. Honestly, a lot of it is personal preference - but one thing that is a bit scary about Onkyo is they almost went bankrupt a year or two ago. If they go bankrupt you won't get firmware upgrades, support, etc.
I just got an x3700h and did similar math. The rz50 is great if it never breaks. Local hifi guy said that he doesn't carry Onkyo due to lack of reliability and because they were bought by Sharp--who do not produce quality products. I had a <two year old onkyo die of HDMI switching before and just didn't want to spend a ton of money to get a failing product with no support.

You make valid points and I am reconsidering the onkyo. The 3700 supports dirac right but its a $350 license?

I can't believe it's 2023 and we're still talking about Onkyo HDMI issues. They haven't had HDMI issues in ages.

the x370h doesn't support dirac. You need to go up to x3800h for dirac support and then pay for the license separately.

Too bad this doesn't support dual subs properly, otherwise it checks all of the boxes. The only thing it is missing for my setup is Dirac Live Bass Control Multi Subwoofer.

I am looking to upgrade my Denon x3600h, which has SubEQ HT. I need something newer with 4k 120hz inputs and VRR support.
You might want to take a look at the 3800.

You don't lose bass management, 4 independent sub outs & with it's preamp mode works really well as a pre/pro.

If you are using the Editor app you may not see a major change from Dirac.
If you still think you want it, you will get an opportunity to add it later.

If Dirac is what your after that would make a pretty inexpensive pre/pro in that aspect.

This will be my 3rd Denon and the other 2 units still work perfectly. I only replaced to upgrade. One of the Denons is 2001 and other is 2007, so both pretty old. Also, have a Sony and Yamaha unit that both work fine stil. Onkyko seems like a brand that won't be around much longer. Does Sharp even make TVs or anything any longer? Yes, they were never known for quality products

I hope to have a 7.2.4 setup. I have a monoprice 5 channel amp, can I do it with this rz50? Do I use 5 preouts for C L F RL RR?
Yes but as someone pointed out earlier "it goes into power limiting mode even with no speakers connected using full pre outs."
Unfortunately those internal amps do not turn off..

They make excellent calculators. Before 2014, the Aquos flat screen line were made in Japan and many were 10 bit panels. Now iirc Hisense makes their flat panels.

What's the average life span for Onkyo receivers now ?

I use to be a die hard fan of Onkyo Receivers but my last few receivers have not been stellar, usually the motherboards have issues after a few months the warranty has expired.

Should I take a chance with Onkyo or just stick with Denon brand receivers ?

And that license varies based on what parts you want. Pieces start at $260. Want bass management? That another $350. All total you're looking at ~$800 if you want all the pieces and have multiple subwoofers.
