I bought this for $50 a while back to supplement my Vizio 3.0 soundbar. It works great and sounds great...made a huge difference in my experience, but I wouldn't buy again, even for $27.

These things are known to have a 60Hz transformer/power supply hum/buzz (I.e. a hum even when not connected to any device - just the wall outlet (and I tried several different outlets.)) and I can attest to such. I would say about 75% of the time, you can't hear it, but after driving it at a medium level for a while, it is very noticeable. Check out the reviews on the monoprice site, they don't lie about the hum.

Bought this and it's been fine for increasing bass with my Jamo tower speakers. Not very loud or powerful but it does not bother the apartment neighbors which is why I chose it. Paid $46 which I thought was fairly slick at the time.

This is entirely too much subwoofer for my needs (home office PC), which makes it perfect. And for $27 it's hard to go wrong. Great find!

thanks for the warning sivartk, this is due to the ultra cheap amp that's inside.

that's why i say if we get our own sub amp, it could be pretty interesting. there's no way you can even build a box like this for $27. laugh out loud

I am of the category with too many subs sitting around as well. At $27 I'm willing to see what this lil dinker has in it! You can't buy a sub plate amp for $27. I'm curious if anyone has tested swapping out the driver for a more robust driver?

according to sivartk above, the included amp is crappy, a sub amp is ~$50-60 at minimum unless you have one laying around.

Absolutely worth adding to the fives for under $30.00. If ya want a much better sub for $30.00 it will take some searching and patience utilizing the used market and thrift stores. There are some amazing deals out there but ya gotta find them. It's the reason I have so much audio equipmentSmilie

Yeah the hum would drive me crazy sitting in a quiet room. Is it humming even in standby power off mode? Guess you could hook up to a switched wifi/etc power outlet and power off when not in use.

You can hear it when it is active, so I have it auto-on with a signal and the sound goes away after so many minutes without a signal.

You're 100% about the box. Sounds like it's built pretty well so it will be great to do some experimenting. I have quite a few 8" drivers laying around along with a few good plate amps. This could also work as a small auto sub by bypassing the plate amp. The internal volume matches up nicely with a few of my 8" subs including an old JL Audio that's been sitting in my closet for over 20 years.

I have this in my small office and the subwoofer randomly cuts out.

Replaced the cable and tried both L and R inputs, same problem. Worth just getting this to try/replace? They seem to be the same spec. Is it pretty much the identical speaker?

That's such an inherently bad design. No possibility of stereo if you get one, ridiculously destructive High frequency phasing if you get 2. (Look up comb filtering)
