Seems like a pretty good price. I will say I was always told to "upgrade" to the Kawasaki engine on John Deeres but this is a pretty good price and should last a while.

Will say though just like all the other lawn mowers.. they always leave these super expensive mowers in the elements.. I really don't understand homedepot and lowe's thinking on that. "Hey let's leave 3,4,5,6,& 7k lawn mowers in rain, sleet, ice, snow, and burning sun all day. That surely won't be bad for them at all. They could at least cover the seats and crap..

Brickseek says they aren't normally in store- curios if anyone sees anything through BS or if this is one of those deals nothing shows except for the in store inventory system…

Mine shows 2 at the store and they are "clearance". I've found what you do is just click the home depot link. If it shows 1 in stock for pickup then it's there.. You might just have to look kind of hard.

I'm sure they are aware and it is seen as the next guys problem. No way anyone just happened to overlook it! On the other hand, you kind of gotta figure they know how fast they turnover and the outside conditions don't last very long.

Isn't John Deere one of those try their hardest to prevent you doing work on your own stuff? Like repair?

On their large tractors yes.. 100% on this not so much though all "lower-end" riding lawnmowers/tractors have non-repairable transmissions. Only the "contractor and higher-end" ones have the transmissions that are serviceable and stuff. That isn't really a deere thing so much as being a cheap thing..

you ever drive by a Deere or Kubota dealer..? all of their open cab 20, 30, 40k small to mid sized tractors are out in the elements 24/7, right next to the zero turn mowers.

floor space is expensive...
if it's on the lot for 6-12 months, they've already lost money nod

It's insane they do that crap. They could easily make a cheaper serviceable unit but purposely make it a consumable part. Just like how they talk about not greasing the spindle bearings and crap on the lower units.

Yeah, I imagine it will be more convenience options for their low end stuff like "we added Bluetooth and an app so you can track service intervals and the health of your mower", but your really paying for a closed ecosystem that no one but them can work on and just like modern tools with epoxy sealed components, nothing will be serviceable. You will have to buy assemblies. Want to replace that ignition switch? It's part of the wire harness/ECU/diagnostics/sensor suite assembly...only $3,400. Just under the price of getting a new mower because "why spend that kind of money to repair the 2 year old model when it's only $600 more to get a new one".

Wonder if it has more to do with people not knowing how to work on anything anymore. That and no one really having any tools or anything. I have an entire tool box full of tools but it's only because my dad used to work on cars and showed me how to do everything so then I learned further and acquired even more tools than he did. Though nowadays I can barely work on any new cars. So many stupid things are tied back to needing a "subscription" and a special device like FCA and wi-tech. Single day subscription for a single vin is like $50 or something plus a $2300 device. It's stupid.

Deere warranty and products are outstanding. We all all green on two family farms and with their network of dealers and shops, any needed work is done quickly.

Just curious but does that matter if the product was bought at lowes/homedpot vs a tractor/farm store? Are the mowers different or warranty handled differently? Curious as considering a riding mower or cheap zero turn. My dad had a john degree riding mower working well easily 20+ years. But I don't know if they are built like that now.
