Lol, barely any trains running during the day let alone overnight. It's a total joke in California
people who are TD, look at the schedule yourself.

They're not wrong. Saw a source that said on average there are approximately 1,700 train derailments every year in the US, and that 2023 is on par with that rate. It's easy to forget how much power news media has by virtue of choosing what to report and not report on.
Source: Last year I took my 2 kids to Western Europe. We flew to 5 distinct locations within Europe (Europe to Europe). Our HIGHEST ticket price was $39/each. Most of the time we were paying ~$25. Train tickets were generally priced at $75 to $100 each. Buying a rail pass for our trips was going to cost $1200. We flew instead, which was much quicker, and paid a total of $425.
PRR/B&O RR building out a massive rail network back in the day is why the NE Corridor exists... without em it would be sparse
I believe this deal is due to Amtrak being forced to cancel NYP-BOS overnight trains - track work in the Bronx i think?

It's more in the news because the severity of derailments is increasing. 38 cars derailed On Feb 3, 28 cars derailed on March 5th. This is unusually severe: http://rail.rutgers.ed
Also, see the attached screenshot from that report of number of cars involved in these derailments. Most derailments are a much smaller number of cars. Therefore, not as national-news worthy.
try from your phone or a different browser their website doesnt work if you keep spamming the scheduler which is mega lame

Yes. And that Amtrak owns the rail lines on the east coast instead of leasing access to the rest of the network.

Odd because I've been told that Amtrak does NOT own a lot of rail in the northeast and has to take a backseat to its owner which is freight. From BOS to western NY, my mother would always be HOURS late and they'd tell her they'd have to hold for the track's owner, freight.
