Before you buy this, make sure your motherboard supports and allows you to enable Resizable BAR or you will be very disappointed in performance:

https://www.intel.com/content/www...20settings.
I did a little online searching, and found this is supposed to perform pretty close to (in some ways slightly better, some slightly worse) than an RTX 3060. For $225, that's pretty good.
what would you recommend instead at this price point?

I bought this. Not a gamer, but I might start in the future.

Just wanted a solid entry/mid-range card to replace an old RX 550 that seems to have some intermittent issues. I bought that nearly 5 years ago as a stopgap, but then the GPU market went completely insane.

Not terribly concerned about frame rates, but I wanted the AV1 encoder for some degree of future-proofing. I figure I might someday take up some video editing or streaming. I will probably not upgrade again for many years, so I didn't want to settle for the A380. For my use case, this card seems like a pretty good deal.
If you want to encode your video as AV1 format with much better quality at the same bitrate, may want to use software AV1 encoder instead.

Based on this youtuber testing of SVT AV1(8)/(7) vs Intel AV1 (and H264), the quality of Intel AV1 is better than X264 veryslow at low bitrate

But SVT AV1 (like using handbrake software) is a big leap over Intel AV1 in term of quality using the same bitrate.

Edgy people blanket hate on Intel because they're told to by YouTubers and others to why they must be bad but I'm really glad to see an alternative to Nvidia that could actually beat them in the future. Best of luck to Intel on their new venture of consumer grade GPU's that can actually play games pretty well.
Give intel a couple more years. They will eventually be able to compete in the high end. Battlemage looks very promising and rumored to compete in the high end performance tier.

Got one last week. Overall happy with it for the price point. I'm concerned about drivers not being all that hot for certain games but time will tell.

Until I upgraded to a mobo with that resizable BAR, certain icons in Destiny 2 would appear corrupted which was a turn off. Swapped all that out and things are so far running pretty good.

ah so intel is still suffering performance hits according to that link. convenient for them to start posting about it a few years later after the initial wave they would want people to upgrade again (not unlike phones) . must be the only way they can get people to upgrade with the lack of advancements when the average user uses email and spreadsheets. even gaming sees less benefit every year. just more reason to continue to stay away.
I doubt its a "scare" and "upgrade push". Lets be real, Intel lost large % of market share in 2016 era. While you are debating the consumer level... There are large pushes away from intel because of this type of bullshit. ARM anyone? How many corps have ditches intel in the past 5 years? The number goes up daily. While I do want to support a new fighter in the GPU arena, I like many will never buy intel spyware crap again.

I had this and returned it last month after doing all the driver updates. I was playing StarCraft which is an older game and was getting tons of screen flickering within the game with lights blinking everywhere, I felt like I was going to have a seizure. I went back and bought a 3070 and the issue was gone. Just something to keep in mind
Oh cool you bought a card over twice the price and it resolved the issue. Neat.

Performance is about that of a gtx 1070 except for rt. That's very very ho hum in 2023.

Still I am glad there are good gaming options for less than 250, which this is. You can do quite a bit with this card at 1080p.

Exactly, they were my go-to for years until shit started piling up. Pretty sure I would have started using them around 2003ish so I have a loooong history with them.

They were outplayed and then kept shooting themselves in the foot while trying to cling to very meaningless amounts of money that rightfully should go back to the customers for various reasons... losing those customers in the process. They even had a warehouse here in NJ which gave them a big leg up since we'd regularly get next day deliveries for free. Amazon now has one as well but it depends on what you're ordering whether you get fast delivery.

The real nail in the coffin was when Amazon started carrying the same products Newegg specialized in along with their insanely easy return policies. It just wasn't worth the hassle to purchase from Newegg anymore and after the last 2-3 years, I just don't order from them out of principle anymore.

Performance is inching up to 3060 territory for the A750. It's slightly ahead of the 6600xt with the new drivers. Here is the A750 vs. 1070 on userbenchmark. Even if you do not agree with their testing, the difference is pretty big.

I mean to write, gtx 1080. Ty for the data and correction. I pulled it up for gtx 1080 on userbenchmark and it is indeed very similar.

Well, I would recommend a RX 6650 XT for $255 as it was available at newegg for a while and here are my points:
I know, it's $30 (+tax) extra, but if you take into consideration the fact that A750 consumes about 30W more when Idle and over 30W when gaming, and at current rate of ~ 15 cents/KW, I would say in about two years your are going to break even and after that it will be cheaper to have the 6650.
If you plan to swap the video card in under 2 years, yes, go with A750.
