Before you buy this, make sure your motherboard supports and allows you to enable Resizable BAR or you will be very disappointed in performance:

I did a little online searching, and found this is supposed to perform pretty close to (in some ways slightly better, some slightly worse) than an RTX 3060. For $225, that's pretty good.
what would you recommend instead at this price point?

I'm not sure who Intel is selling this card to? Gamers aren't going to buy it when other much better options are available. Normal users aren't going to see a need for an additional video card. Who's buying these things?

Quote from Knightshade :
Given the CURRENT CPUS when the patches were issued -had the same issue and the same performance hit from the path- no, it really didn't have any impact....since the net difference in performance from the upgrade would've been the same before and after.

Not only that, Spectre impacted ARM and AMD as well... and continues to do so as new speculative attack vectors are found... the patching of which continues to impact performance today with recent chips

https://www.tomshardware.com/news...igitations [tomshardware.com]

That's benchmarking showing the hits to CPUs as recent as the i9-12900k from newer spectre mitigation patches.

One is of course free to stop patching their system if they don't think security flaws are worth taking any performance hit to fix
ah so intel is still suffering performance hits according to that link. convenient for them to start posting about it a few years later after the initial wave they would want people to upgrade again (not unlike phones) . must be the only way they can get people to upgrade with the lack of advancements when the average user uses email and spreadsheets. even gaming sees less benefit every year. just more reason to continue to stay away.

While the market for GPUs is still constrained and there are no deals unless you go a few generations old AND/OR take a risk on a new GPU supplier with drivers still in development (aka Intel), consider trying out NVIDIA's cloud service. I'm not a competitive gamer but I was shocked at how well it worked (provided you have decent internet access) for games like Cyberpunk, etc.

My cost for the RTX enabled1080p tier (max rsolution I play anyway) is $100/yr. not a bad price to "kick the can down the road" for a bit longer.

I'm banking that Intel's next GPU generational iteration being more feature rich w/ better compatibility (i.e, performance gains comparable to its competitor GPU, DirectX 9 support for older titles, sans BAR support requirements, etc.)

mine is an old i7 2011, no resizable bar, runs fine, av1 encoding at 360 fps . and good enough for red dead for now

I found an old complete computer along with some junk and furniture on the street. Intel core i7 930 4-core CPU Bloomfield for LGA1366 socket main board. Cleaned out everything with a cheap $20 Aliexpress blower and repasted CPU. Overclocked that puppy from 2.8Ghz to 4.1Ghz and let me tell you that puppy flies on Windows 11.

I took out the Asus Radeon R9 380X and installed a MSI Suprim X 4090 in the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and you can play warzone, fortnite, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, etc easily at 1080p/1440p and even some games at 4k.

You've been had folks this 14-year old system is all you need.

waited 10 years and relic gives me this half as unfinished game....

I don't have this card but it does have a driver for Ubuntu so if you use that distro it will most likely work for it.

how do you figure this is comparable to an RTX 3060? Passmark ratings seem to favor the RTX 3060.

Keep looking... Passmark isn't the only test.

I had an A770 and was impressed. I'm an Nvidia guy so I have high standards. It wasn't perfect but a great 2nd choice if you don't want NV. I only returned it because I wanted roughly double the performance and could get it by paying more. Otherwise I found some bugs but nothing that would cause it to be unusable. They're dedicated to driver updates as well. I'd buy it again. Great ray tracing performance, second only to Nvidia. The video encoder is second to none. And the performance is great for its class and price.
What games can you comfortably use ray tracing on with this?

I am about to pull the trigger on a new RX 6600 XT for $192 on Aliexpress. Soyo SY-RX6600XT in this case Much faster and much cheaper than this ARC 750 card in every respect. Guaranteed arrival time 12 days or less. Or you can buy it on Newegg since December 24, 2022 where it's $305 for the same card. Half the sellers on Newgg are from China now might as well cut out the middleman. Customer service and refund policy is also better than Newegg.

Thanks I read a part of that review published today didn't read far before seeing this: "For Linux gamers one of the main limitations does still, sadly, remain. As of writing there is still no sparse residency support for the ANV driver that in turn prevents many newer Windows games from working with the Intel graphics driver.".
