Alright in for one. I've been looking at this on and off for awhile. I don't gig, just pretend in my basement so 5w is plenty. Thanks for posting.

Also, the 15W has the 1W switch as well. The 5W is a good little amp if that's all you need but doesn't have the extra tone knobs and reverb that the 15W has. In hindsight, I'd have gone straight to the 15 Watter if I'd have known how great all of these Stage Right tube amps sound.

This is a very basic amp. If you know you want it for some specific reason, then this is a good price. But most people would be better served by getting monoprice's 15w tube amp. Whenever it might go on sale appropriately.

Switchable between 1w and 5w is a nice touch. 8 inch speaker is a non starter for me, though. Even a 10 inch is pushing it for getting much low end out of it. Twang to your heart's content, though.

This is a great tube amp for the price. It has a lot of really nice features, particularly the external cab output and the 1w/5w switch. It is a lot louder than you may think, and it's a great size to bring to jams and play in the bedroom. Highly recommend.

Don't like it; for savings. Only about $100 more on sale gets your the MP 15W. Then the 12" midrange Celestion speaker really matters, it can go mouse quiet to full stage and against rock drums without house PA even. So universal and like the guy with one gun and knows how to use it. AKA practice on same as perform.

Also has very good mid level reverb, by real spring tank.

And and EQ thank you. As this is one rare all tube amp able to get more tones than many.

And great effects loop connections to easily add whatever else you need Separately. For under $40 optional a Cube Baby adds USB digital out (yes you can connect it so the tube PRE amp character goes to USB through the Baby and so to DAW recorded.) And a long list of so many digital effects, too many different amp tones and fine cab IR tones mixable with analog or each). Besides a looper (which should be separate) then what can't you match with that?

And you can add anything you want like old pedals, but most are matchable by simply turning knobs. On the 15W MP or the Cube Baby in manual mode. But it has easy presets, tuner, noise cut, no multi wire battery built in, changes with cell phone chargers and last about 2 weeks or more. If you forget to charge it at your jam location then any standard phone charger will do it in a few short minutes. It has cell phone cables etc, even if you wanted to record on your (newer) phone with your DAW.

Anyway there is nothing wrong with this tiny amp if you understand. I just don't like, "practice amps" for budgeting considerations. Combos are your slickest deal and the 15W is actually world class, with great classic tones a plenty; all by itself.

Wait for about $202 with multi discounts.

You can even use a phone for practice tones, just play dry (for some things), an old kids karaoke machine, old stereo, a Bluetooth speaker etc... It's more than enough for practice-only. But why do that if you have the MP 15W. It is like of 50W loudness maxed, but also settable for less sound than the strings dry. Like 0.8 volume *OR* Gain LOL. The attenuator helps quick volume jump up or down. Don't believe the myths. It growls (pre amp tubes gain on high) almost as much as super ultra gain metal. And the Cube Baby does more. It works into the front or back as the Baby is strong a digital pre amp of it's own(every famous tone). And it's an excellent booster too with only the volume ON, as master. Keep that Volume down and amps(either) higher for low noise recordings.

The 15W version:

Everything has some noise at ultra gain and both my MP 15W and the Cube Baby control noise very well.

If you only had $40 you could practice with just the Cube Baby; but into any other amp and speaker. If one(kids?) was only going low cost practice, you could adapt an $8 China 50W tiny digital poweramp and a use 12" guitar speaker at say $30. Make a cab maybe; if you already have the wood and know how. For fun project only. It is cheaper to buy what you need. I think it's the MP 15W. There's no way to build it for $200 without free parts from free broken disregards or something.

Remember; this is SLICKdeals.

The 5W looks inexpensive; until you know you get more than enough with the 15W. Not so much with the boxy sounding 8" 5W box. Cute though.

And don't complain about size and weight. The 15W is an amazing 25lb. Perfect. All in one portable combo, fitting any vehicle. Almost any person can carry it.

And both the MP and Baby are instant ON devices. The computer stuff is fun; but hardly instant ON .

Oh to the two take 2 minutes to warm, if it's cold

You have more time to practice. It is motivating BUT our motivation does NOT depend on equipment capability or high price especially.

I just like it. I can make the tones match my fav tunes.

At 12x12.8x8.3 this is less than half the volume of the 15 watt. You may have room for the larger one but some of us don't. I'd rather have an amp that fits than no amp at all.

You missed the point. It's the everything amp at just 25 lbs and $200 when on sale.

Hi. What's better for a beginner? This or the similarly priced fender front man 20W? Thanks

I have long missed my 5W Silvertone 1481 with only volume/tone controls which I got around 1968. (It was made for Sears by Danelectro.) The guy living next to me in the dorm was a serious (and eventually professional guitarist) really into Hendrix) who would sometimes borrow it, noting that it had such great tone. I (then) thought it sounded like crap but when he played his early 60s white Strat through it (with no pedals or anything else) I understood what he meant. Currently 1481s are going for $400+ and I am simply not willing to spend that kind of money for nostalgia. Do any of you have an idea as to how this would compare to that amp? Could I recapture some of that vibe for $100? If so, I'm in. Thanks.
