Also worth noting is that the S20 Ultra has a massive 5k mAh battery which is the same as the S22 & S23 Ultra. The S20 Ultra has a 6.9" screen which is the largest ever on a Samsung device alongside the Note 20 Ultra. The S20+ has a 6.7" screen which is a smidge larger than the current S23/S22+.
These are the final Galaxy S models to support microSD expansion and the first to support 45W Wired charging. Also the final Galaxy S models to support Samsung Pay MST (the Note 20 Ultra being the final one to support those features). Finally, although the hardware supports it, there were some behind the scenes shenanigans and these devices never received 5G midband support on any carrier. Apple's iPhone 12 has the same 5G qualcomm chipset and got updated to support those frequencies in addition to mmwave and low-band. So you won't see "UWB" very much on these devices, if ever. I had a Note 20 for 18 months so I know. When I upgraded from a Note 20 Ultra to the S22 Ultra I got mid-band support and a significantly improved 5G experience.
I would have no issues buying one of these for a 1 year "rental" or as a wi-fi based device to fiddle with or as a kids' phone. Compared to, say, a comparably priced Moto G budget handset, these will run circles around it in camera & SoC performance and especially screen quality. You'll also get wireless charging and significantly faster wired charging IF you use a proper PPS PD charger.

1) $8/month for 3 years is $288. Assuming they don't raise prices. Given i tend to keep my phone for a long time, that can add cost to the phone and I give up the ability access my videos instantly
2) 5G is not everywhere and I tend to hit the less populated areas when exploring and recording these videos. So the persistent argument of going to the cloud does not work.
3) I just don't trust the cloud to keep my data safe enough.
So there is some use case outside the specialty use cases. What would get me to move over to cloud is high speed 5G available and reliable everywhere including remote mountainous area and farmland. Cloud storage is basically free and uploads and downloads are automatically encrypted by me not the cloud storage company.
2. You don't need 5g to download a video unless you need it immediately, which means you would probably have that particular one saved on your phone. No, you shouldn't be needing to view many that many videos instantly unless youre doing a job, in which case youre using the wrong tool. just download it 5 minutes before you want to show it. people who are truly willing to watch your content will be okay waiting a couple minutes or so. if they don't want to wait, that's cause they dont want to watch it.
3. Your distrust of cloud is not a valid reason for why sim card is good or needed. There's no evidence google drive is insecure for the average user. it's no different from avoiding vaccines in fear of what it might do to you.

Let's agree to disagree.
1) Samsung makes cheaper phones with sdcard slots. And if you look it up, extfat actually is now part of the Linux kernel and hence Android kernel. So there is no barriers now to support it. It is pennies for them to add it. If you want to continue to belive the stories that these corporation are removing the sdcard slot to save money they are going to pass on to you, then go right ahead and believe. I just know they are doing it to get you on a subscription to keep you paying them.
2) 5 minutes? More like never if you can't get reception. Not everyone lives and play in the cities. And last I checked here in the US, there are plenty of people out in the boonies.
3) I actually support the vaccine and have gotten all the shots. And who was talking about sim? We are talking about sdcard slots. Yes I know all encryption might be hacked one day, but what I don't like is giving that trust to some corporation who is striving to make money off of me. Who is to say they start using their AI to look at your pictures and analyze to sell you more stuff? Or worst other things.

Good luck with the purchase. For me, I always buy new after rolling the dice a couple of times over the years.
