I'm A+ certifified and have worked with computers at home since I was younger. I've setup my own home network/WiFi using pfSense and Unifi equipment. I've been having trouble obtaining my first entry level IT job. Every place want 10 years experience for an entry level role. Currently in the healthcare industry for over a decade and looking to switch careers.

I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback!

I would love to learn cloud stuff like AWS, Azure and Google cloud. Cybersecurity is also on my radar.

Currently working to obtain Network+ and learning Linux.

I started my IT field at a dealership. They didn't know anything. I got to experiment and screw up a lot of things. They were cheap so they got what they needed and I got what I needed. Lol

I took the practitioner exam recently wasn't too bad with a week of studying if you're already in the IT field.

I need to move on to the architect training but getting myself to do it is another thing.
Architect is easy, just need to memorize their marketing terms for stuff.

I get retake, if necessary, is free. But how much is the first exam?
I believe the cloud practitioner is $100, Associate-level exams(sysops,developer and solutions architect) are $150 and professional(solutions architect,devops)/speciality exams(networking,data analytics,database, machine learning,security and sap) are $300

with you learning linux, you could go redhat cert route for linux system adminstration or if you want to go cloud route, aws sysops. Depending on how you like to learn, there are youtube channels with alot of good learning information, for cloud sites like cloudguru that have hands on labs or if you like to have the mentorship teacher experience then there are bootcamps.

Thanks. I would probably go the cloud route. AWS sysops or cloud security, since I like security as well.

Is this something realistically learnable and passable in a week or two?

I was in the field for over 15 years. No A+, No degree, just hands on experience. Not sure where you're applying to, but try the corporate field. Law firms and such. They pay well and the work isn't much. They tend to deal more with software than hardware. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel etc.
I live in a big city so it wasn't hard to get my foot in the door. I actually started in the mailroom, but moved up.
I was gonna say geek squad, but your current job might be better. You could also start your own side business. A lot of people will pay you to do stuff you already know. Plus it gets your name out there.

Why is it called retake test? Does it only work for individuals who have already taken the test before? This would be my first time taking it and Im wondering of it's free.

You have to
pay and take the exam within that specified time frame. If you fail though you can retake it for free.

You definitely want to start at a help desk. Make sure to study up on interviewing. There's plenty of great stuff on YouTube. From there you could probably move to desktop support after a year or two. Or maybe the NOC. Information Security may also be a good direction from the service desk but you'd need to eat, sleep and drink it and express that you're just looking for a chance. Try emailing the manager of desktop support and help desk at your place of work. Express interest and ask if you can help out with anything on a regular basis, paid or unpaid doesn't matter at this point.

Don't waste time on the Network+. Get a Sec+ and then you can get into the door in a DoD gig. Contractors would find that attractive because they don't have to waste time and effort getting you certified if you can walk in the door with that.
