I don't think this is a great deal when the iphone 11 can be had for as low as $60 from Metro PCS, that's with 1 month service included and you wait 6 months instead of 12 for unlocking.

I was able to add the phone and $15 plan by going to phone buy page selecting color and clicking check availability. Then before choosing a plan open new tab and BYOP (https://my.boostmobile.com/shop/buy/plans/) with $15 plan and click Choose Plan. Total (before tax) in cart $214.99.

All Metro's are independent dealers so they're notorious for upcharging customers. In August I went to switch where the clerk initially wanted over $200 for the first month's service, tax and activation fee. After questioning that number, she somehow lowered it to about $160 and did not show the cost breakdown. After leaving, I was able to activate and access my account and saw that I was upcharged for device protection and HD video. The FCC consumer complaint route was no help. Stick with Boost, especially as the 12 is a 5G Phone and you can earn boostcoins just for logging in everyday.

What I did was buy the 3-month plan from Amazon for $15, ordered the phone and selected port my own number (that prevents the auto activation of the $40 plan). Then I activated the phone on the prepaid 3-month plan. After 3 months it renews at $45 for another 3-months (effectively $15/m). In 12 months I am hopeful that this satisfies the unlock requirement. I used the $40 plan for one month in a portable Hotspot I had lying around.
