So I currently have an iphone 13 with Verizon bought 1.5 years ago which gave out the trade in credit in a monthly fashion, still haveabout 6 month to go to get full credit.
Although the line is eligible for upgrade, if I took the bait with this will they stop paying my old phone credit?
The line says it's elgible for upgrade, but to upgrade you would either have to pay the balance (without the remaining credit) or turn in the phone (lose remaining credit but don't have to pay balance, but you lose value of whatever you paid on the phone).

Since this phone discount isn't about credits, you can buy outright for $399 on a new line, but then close the line right away. I believe you still have to pay an activation fee and 1 day or so of the plan while it was active. This won't affect your current line, and just swap the sim card over.

Att site says 14 days but Reddit says they are reluctant to honor that and you have to argue with them. Was just thinking the same thing.
Hi, can you post a link to the reddit discussion? Thanks

I remember when Tmo used to have good phone deals. Those days are long gone...
Yep, the T-Mo deals specifically at best buy were awesome. Costco T-Mobile deals were awesome too. All gone now...

No, you have to read and follow what the OP said. Click the options on best buy's listing page and you'll see it all detailed there.

Hmm does this mean we have to pay for two months of att service and activation fee before the device can be unlocked ?

So that's $299 for the phone plus $120 for the plan and $35 for the activation fee ?

The highlighted part doesn't apply, that's in regards to phones purchased on installment plans, specifically "paid off early" installment plans.

As another user already pointed out, a paid-in-full phone (which this is) can be unlocked immediately.

Second bullet point-

Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You don't have to wait 60 days to unlock it.

Port out the line to cancel. Line automatically cancels as soon as the number it ported out (5-10 mins). You can port to Tello for $2.50.

Why's the Tmobile version $150 more..
These phones are subsidized by the carriers and hoping people would switch or add more lines and stay with them, etc; therefore different carrier may offer different prices.
Quote from Surge99 View quoted comment :
Can I request unlock right away or do I need to stay on att service for a while? With the new line att.
You can request unlock right away because it's paid in full with no money owed; i.e., no monthly installment,

Yes.

Just ordered one for att and plan to cancel.

The bottom of it said Plan will renew each month unless canceled. I am going to call a week after I get it and have them cancel the line after the month is over.
Port out the number to cancel right away (5-10 min, as soon as the number is ported) so that you don't have to deal with rep that doesn't allow you to cancel. You can port to Tello for $2.50.
