I got mine unlocked. TLDR; follow the process mentioned by others, activate the z fold 3 with the SIM that it came with, then move it to another unlocked phone, reboot that phone, make few calls, make sure ATT portal/app shows the unlocked phone instead of z fold 3 and then go to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not a current ATT customer option. Make sure to check your spam folder for the emails as that's where my emails ended from the unlock request. Google thinks these are spam.

I did a new line on an existing account. Once I received the phone I activated it by putting the SIM in it then requested the device unlock in the portal by choosing existing ATT customer and giving the main number (not the new one) in the account. It got denied saying the "Service needs to active for 60 days" error. I started a chat with CS rep and they were not willing to do anything. I called the tech support line somebody mentioned and the agent was aware of the new policy change recently and she agreed that I bought the phone before the policy change but couldn't do it. It got to her supervisor who genuinely tried to override it and consulted with other supervisors but kept getting multiple errors. He also apologized for it.

So I followed the method mentioned before and everything went smooth. It seems to me that if the phone is attached to the network then the system is enforcing the policy while if it's not (but it needs to be on the network for the very first time) then the system allows it to be unlocked.

Planning to cancel the line tomorrow. So, in summary if you are an ATT customer or creating a new account follow the steps mentioned in the beginning. If that does not work, FCC complaint seems to be the way to go. What a CF!
Can you tell me how to cancel the line

I ported from tracfone. The port failed. Line suspended. I canceled it next day. $115 service fee/activation fee/taxes pops up on my acct 3 days later.
The first agent CHECKED the NOTE on my account(I assume att marked for this batch of phone from bb) and insists "it is necessary to pay the amount of this month with an amount of $113.81", until I asked name and ID for FCC complaint, and trasfer me to the manager. Manager told me there is a mistake, and give me $100 credit, but refused to explain why it is $100. I already filled FCC complaint about the False Billing.

You would have to put the SIM on another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls. Make sure the unlocked phone shows in your account. Then try the unlock gain as a not ATT customer with IMEI of fold 3

I don't think so. You would have to call, unfortunately. But they are pretty quick to cancel the line. Took like 2 mins.

Phone is back in stock .What is best way to sell my second phone? Leave it unopened or ? I unlocked my phone yesterday and using it on T Mobile. Just checked ATT bill and see I got charged $108 even though they never activated it. Had problems with number or something. I tried using a Text Free number. So call them and get this bill taken care of or wait?

*The FCC case really helped*

My name is Stephen S. from the Office of the President. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us via the FCC. I apologize for the issues you've had with AT&T.

We did not "retroactively" change our policy. The unlock policy was changed on 3/28/23. Under the new policy, customers must wait 60 days to unlock any phone, including those paid for in full at the time of purchase.

In this particular case, we will honor the policy that was in effect when you purchased your phone and the unlock code you requested is as follows:

Xxxxxxxx

The phone should ask for this code when a non-AT&T SIM card is inserted into it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this matter.

Sincerely,

Stephen S.
Office of the President

OK, so asking for their rank and number for the FCC complaint works.
They will get with manager and zero out their BS balance.

Granted, they never should have charged me anyways because I didn't use a single day of service and unlocked my phone. Chumps.

Based on this confirmation of policy change, it appears as they will not unlock any phones purchased after 28th unless individuals wait 60 days.
