HD must have significantly raised price because I bought mine a year ago new and not on sale at $349.

Direct Tools "factory reconditioned" is very hit or miss and there is no reconditioning at all. This is just modern day BS for what we used to call USED. Factory reconditioned means brought up to factory new specifications. What DT calls "factory refurbished" are just returned items and the only reconditioning they *might* have done is maybe wipe it down. The factory reconditioned leaf blower I got looks used, but the second you turn it on you hear the bearings that have gone bad, the impeller rattles. Unfortunately I waited to open the box and test it and warranty ran out before then. Nothing factory reconditioned about a leaf blower with rattling bearings. Some people have bought "factory refurbished" and have been happy with it so that's why I said hit or miss. But for me I stick to factory blemished, which means new, in unopened retail box.

I've had the opposite experience. You get a full year warranty on all refurbs and I've bought a few items that came looking brand new besides having the refurb stamp. YMMV

Not in my experiences and I have about 20 of their items. Always been in a sealed box. They do this to rotate new stock. Stuff that doesnt sell at the stores is returned. New models are released constantly and those are max profit mark-ups. I would assume that there is some used stuff in the mix but that has never happened to me. update..26 tools not including batteries/chargers. Always been NIB.

They did. The list price was $350 May 2022, now it's $499. Good job keeping inflation under wraps Ryobi. In fact, you were the one who posted on the previous forum Smilie

I've gotten several "refurb" units from dto in the past. They have all ranged from lightly used, to straight up beat. My expectation with these, as more or less a 1 time use tool (ie they don't have daily or weekly or even yearly applications like a drill-how often do you install a post or fence) is that these were bought, used, and returned because someone decided to use a home Depot purchase as a defacto rental. I'd think that the unit you received will probably be pretty beat.

My reply for everyone seems to be the same so I thought appropriate to combine into one reply for all 3 replies.

I was intending to share my experience and my reaction to it. But I certainly am glad that all 3 of your experiences was positive and was a good experience in getting a good deal and an item in good shape. I would have liked to have received the same experience that youall did, unfortunately all I got was a lesson in how I should just stick to factory blemished. My main issue is that it does not take hardly any effort to stick a battery in the blower and turn it on once and they would realize this item was completely worn out. The item sent to me as factory refurbished should not have passed their filtering process had they bothered to actually do it. But again, I'm glad your experiences were very different than mine.

Planning to build a fence this summer. For barely over $200, and a battery included, I'm damn tempted. Reviews were way better than expected. Anybody want to convince me not to? Don't want to rent a gas powered one, and I have a nice posthole digger but this sure looks faster.

If you don't already have a bunch of 40v tools this is not only a good way to get your fence done but a way to start down the 40v path (pole saw, mower, etc). The bare tools go on sale a lot more than the tools with the 40v battery, so this could be the start of a beautiful (expensive) collection.

I just did 80 holes for a fence. I also did 125 holes for hedges. I used the 4, 6 And 8 inch bits. I find the 6 the perfect fit for the 4 inch posts. The 8 was too big. I also bought the nail gun to put up 300 feet of wire fence.

There is a reason why you want 8in auger for 4in posts actually better to have a 10in. The concrete you pour around the 4in post the bigger it is, the more stable your post is to lateral force and also lifting and sinking loads. The wider of a hole you can provide for your fence post and the more concrete you can give it, the more trouble free it will be in the future. If you just use just a 6in hole and no concrete you might be able to push on it a few times and you might be able to lift it out of the ground with little effort. Put it in a 10in diameter hole then give 24in depth of concrete. I doubt you could remove it or really even wiggle it without some sort of mechanical advantage.

That makes sense. I didn't need to use concrete as this was an agricultural fence, Kentucky 3 board that went right into the sand. Thanks for explaining the purpose for the 8 inch and it does make sense to have the bigger hole for concrete. The 4 inch bit did not leave enough room to recenter the posts either.

Does anyone know if Harbor Freight's augers will attach to the Ryobi head?
