Well, it sounds like after cutting off that double micro usb plug -it's going to need one of those usb regulators soldered up. just splicing in a straight USB C connection is out. The regulation for that plug must be on the Lion Cub side.

Incidentally, I know you measured the voltage but did you measure the amps on the wiring before putting them in a series? That's a pretty low wattage if all the cells were connected.
Not sure what you're trying to do, if you need 5V regulated just use the female USB-A ports. Buying something extra that supports USB PD at higher voltages would probably not be worth it given that you will not be reliably getting 20W out of this with clouds and whatnot. Short circuit amps is meaningless without a load.

From past experience with some usb connectors, I've found that the power output can be limited. Not sure if that is the case here but I've ran into it before. I already have the parts so may as well run my own power bank connection directly. It's not expensive to do.

I wasn't using the USB connectors. They were cut off, there's just a red and black wire. Would not be possible to put 2 panels in series with the existing micro usb connectors unless you make a very specific cable with female microusbs, ain't got time for that.

Unless your power bank takes floating voltage input I don't see what the point would be to add another 5V regulator when it already has one.

No, I wasn't talking about the micro usb connections. I was talking about the USB A ports on the box. I've had different experiences with these, some are great and some leave a little to be desired when you hook up something bigger than a phone. Some just have cheapie regulation.

If the manufacturer of this thing saw fit to hook their power bank directly without the regulation, I guess that's good enough for me.

I'll put a meter on it and see how the watts compare to your findings. I have a little panel I built half the size of this which can hit almost 10 watts usb (depending on the battery state). This should do a lot higher than that.

Their power bank that costs over $100 is designed to take unregulated input from 6 to 8V or regulated 5V USB. Your power bank probably is not designed for a random input of 8V unless it was also made by some company with a solar product ecosystem.

If you try to add a QC or PD board to do 9V 18W, it will be flaky. Because if the panel doesn't produce enough to meet that wattage due to a cloud, it will stop fast charging. Lots of devices only negotiate power upon first connection and do not renegotiate if available the power drops intermittently.

That has not been my experience at all. Yes, with an I-phone or other cell phones it can happen that way. That's why I would never charge an I-phone directly.

Haven't had that happen with a power bank though. Power banks have renegotiated after a small pause.

Happened today -in fact. I was charging a Tozo. Huge cloud cover, sun almost gone for 60 seconds. It dropped out to almost nothing. renegotiated. I did nothing but watch,

Nothing special about the Tozo. Maybe there's something special about the regulator I put in my panels.

Did anyone else notice these are 26 cell panels? That is, 26 cells in series. That's a funky setup. Most panels this size are 36 cells in series setup for use with 12v batteries, so these won't work for that. If you're thinking of opening up the box in the back and hardwiring directly to the output of the panel, there aren't many use cases I can think of.

Me thinks these panels were custom made for Lion energy and bcuz they no longer make or sell the cub go and the funky cell setup they can't be easily repurposed, thus give away price, after factoring in free shipping they might be losing money on these at this price - seems like they just want them gone lol

Just got this in today and did some quick testing.

In full 2pm sun with the panel outside facing south, I am getting 5.1V at an average of 1.5A for my iPhone 13 with all optimized charging settings turned off.

So really, I am only getting at most a 8W charge. It didn't matter if it was USB1 or USB2 on the device. When charging a power bank, it's getting 2A so 10W.

Appreciate the update and testing! Did you receive any (email) updates for tracking as you waited to receive it?

I'm still waiting on my order after the initial confirmation email (~3 days ago). I haven't received any shipping updates and on I'm on the fence as to whether I should call customer service....or if I should just wait.

Yes, I received a shipping confirmation e-mail about 24 hours after the order date. I'd reach out and ask them for the status.

I'm in the same boat. Not worth my time to download the "shop" app to track my package. It'll show or it'll cancel. Idc.

I also declined to download the "shop" app.
For what it's worth, I sent their customer support an email requesting a shipping update.
I received a reply a few minutes ago confirming that my order will be shipped today.

Did your shipping confirmation email come with UPS tracking number(s)?
Mine did.
All you have to do is copy and paste into UPS website.

How are you measuring the amperage 1.5A ?
