I would suggest keeping it clean so that doesn't happen. Mosquito Dunks are really effective for that as well and they don't hurt the birds.

I've never had problems with mosquitos in birdbaths, but this one seems awfully deep. If you fill it to the rim (so that birds can perch and drink), they very well may drown.

My current one is deep and I've never had that problem. The birds are pretty resilient Smilie I've seen people add pebbles or small stones to bird baths in order for bees to drink without drowning so that could be an option.
