I purchased this laptop almost a month ago when I posted the deal, turns out the "new open box" standard isn't strictly enforced. After receiving the item I found there were cosmetic flaws (dings) to the metal body and it was obvious it was used prior.

Also the item I received was recertified from a company called Computerland and the 90 day warranty is through their company. Safe to say Woot accepted the return of the item for a full discount and they even offered $200 additional discount if I wanted to keep the item but I felt duped and just returned it.

All in all, I would say this is still a good deal for a good condition laptop but don't expect to get a new item!
I bet you have never been hit by a car before neither, do you still look around when you're crossing the street?
Meh.. gonna keep waiting for the 14 to hit 1300

This would be a good choice for self use. Big Grin M2 is newer but the price-performance ratio did not make it.
Actually, the price performance ratio of the M2 Pro is stellar. Quit worrying about the sequential SSD benchmarks thinking that's the be all and end all of performance whereas it's not even a typical real-world use case for most of us.

The overall benchmarks for the M2 Pro are solid and the price jump isn't much. For example, brand new, the lowest this 16" has gone was $1999, you can get the 16" for $2249 or so, just over 10% more. Same story for the 14", $1549/1599 sale prices for the M1 Pro and $1799 on sale for the M2 Pro.

Was looking at this because my 15" MBP Retina is finally dying (graphics chip). I have never bought AppleCare for any of my devices, ever...but with the M1 laptops I think it's a must have.

With the older Macs you could pop the ram, or replace the SSD, motherboard, whatever. The M1 it's basically a solid state object. Everything is soldered on, and the T2 chip seals whatever's left together.

I'd consider it if it was eligible for square trade etc, but it's not. <shrug>.

AppleCare is understandable. But what about 1 year standard warranty? Why they don't have it?
If the original purchase was 1+ year ago, they expired.

You couldn't do any of those repairs with the 15in retina MBP, though maybe you meant even older ones. But I agree about getting AppleCare or similar. I had a component short out on my M1 MBP at the 18mon mark. Likely due to a faulty (Anker) usb-c hub with power pass through (it failed shortly after). Fixed/replaced by Apple no problem with AppleCare.

This is an Apple. You have changed a motherboard or SSD on a M1?
He is that good. He uses some PC to pry-up his trailer.

If you can wait, leak of the M3 is coming out in June @ WWDC then this deal won't age well. https://www.forbes.com/sites/ewan...-wwdc/amp/

The repair cost on these are astronomical form Apple. I had a hairline crack on my OLED screen and Apple wanted almost $850 to repair it. Thankfully I had AppleCare on it, which I don't usually purchase on any of my Apple devices but this one paid off just in one repair.

Directly comparing specs between windows and Macs is a very silly thing to do, and only silly people do it.

I'd usually say 'don't feed the trolls' 😁 but this is the perfect reply.
