Hello All, I recently just noticed my credit card apr went from 11.99 % to 16.74 % gradually over the course of a year. I contacted discover via chat to ask why, ( I obviously know why) but I wanted to see what they would say and if there was any promotions they can offer. 2 years ago I caught this promotion 0% apr for 12 months. I didn't think they would be able to do this again, but they did. this is actually pretty good in my eyes. This is something that you have to chat with them and ask for. I have the basic discover it card and have been with them since 2018 and use this as my main card. Thought it would be good to share. Thanks for reading.

Buy whatever you want, pay only the minimum but don't incur any interest as long as the balance is at $0 12 months from now. Is this how it works? Never done one of these before.

I used to do this all the time, but Discover stopped offering it to me. Probably because I would run up a tab of $50k or more over a year and then pay it off and not pay a penny in interest. Discover hates this one simple trick.

Yup... after the activation date of the promo. Thanks

I don't use this card, so I'm not sure if they'll add the promo or not, but I might just put one big purchase on it and spread out the payment over 12 months and invest the money that was going to pay it full for a year.

Is this a better card than the regular discover card before they required to upgrade? I didn't upgrade to the it card but I asked them to and it never happened.

Thanks. I normally don't care about this but now it actually makes a lot of sense when you can get 5%+ on CDs.

Zero percent balance transfer for 12+ months in itself is not a deal if there is a fee (3-5%)
Zero percent on purchases may be good for people who want to make big ticket purchases and will pay back in time.
Zero percent balance transfer with no fee would be a great deal to dump money in high interest paying account.

I know what you're talking about, but that doesn't apply to this kind of an offer. You're thinking of how they handle balance transfers. The way Discover handles payments is they first apply to your minimum payment, then anything over that applies to your largest balance first. So if you carry a large balance transfer balance and make new purchases, it is impossible to pay off those new purchases without paying off the entire balance. So yes if you use this card for a BT, essentially you have to quit using it until you pay off the BT offer if you don't want to pay interest.

This offer is different though. This gives you 0% on all purchases within the offer period. It's not a BT offer.
Might be just a bad wording here and we are on the same page anyways. It's not the largest chunk of balance but the chunk of the balance with the highest APR applied.

AFAIK There's a 5% fees for the transfer. So a 12 month transfer is more or less equivalent to a loan at 5% rate.
