I'm largely avoiding cheap studio titles that "randomly" pop up because in many cases a 4k upgrade is on the way.
This movie is in desperate need of a remaster. I know some of the low-quality video is inherent to the source and is supposed to be part of the style, but DVD-era and early bluray-era masters are known to be terrible at producing good video from films that used different filters and had varying styles within the movie. A 4k remaster would allow all the different styles to shine the way they're supposed to.

There was one released for Japan. Looks to be region free, but it will cost a great deal more.
If I am reading this correctly it is a 4k remaster put to blu-ray. Its not a 4k disc. And comparing screens its really not all that different from whats available here. The real improvement was supposed to be the older Universal Japanese release. Either way this movie begs a proper 4k release by one of the boutique labels. Its 30th anniversary is next year!
