Google Fi data is too expensive and the S23 has a small battery and small 6.1" screen. Those are big cons for me if I was going to be spending that amount of bucks with a phone and the 120 days. I thought about the plus but that was $499 deal plus the required months. Not worth it for my use. Google Fi deals could be really good and I have gotten a couple great deals in the past with trade-ins but they are hoops to jump through and compromises with its plan.

I definitely like Samsung phones though.
You don't need to port your number to Fi. Just buy a cheap number to port or use Google Voice like I did ($3 to unlock). You can then just pay the $20 + tax for 4 months for a total of about $100 on service. So you could have bought an S23 256GB unlocked for about $400 total (+tax on $300) + $3-10 for a number to port. When I bought my S22, they also had a $75 off $150 Amex offer.

Better buying used previous gen flagship phone instead. These mid-low tier phones come with low performance chips and parts, you will have lagging issues from the beginning.
I thought battery was the biggest issue.

Not even close. Used is used. Refurbished is a fancy term. Wear and tear is real on the screen, speakers and battery especially if it is approaching nearly 3 years. I would never buy a used/"refurbished" especially for a few hundred dollars. If one says that it charges over 80%, it doesn't mean that it holds charge like a new battery. Plus people gotta think about security and system updates AND also warranty. Performance is similar and you also get microsd support with the A54.

People really want new phones with longer support and warranty. People are also under the impression that
Agreed that there are some uncertainties with wears/tears and battery. You can return it if they dont meet your expectations.

Performance is still way below. Please check the benchmark at GSMarena. A54 is new, so its not available. You can reference performance difference between gs20 and a53. I am highly doubt that A54 is much superior than A53.

I have an google fi account with over $100 credit available. I know that I would like the Samsung Galaxy s23 but after using my pixel 6a with its 6.1" screen, I really don't want a Samsung Galaxy s23 with a 6.1" screen. The small battery doesn't help either. I want the Samsung Galaxy s23+ but that deal was $500... way too much. If I saw a great deal on the samsung galaxy s23+, I would definitely be interested but the cost has to be way under $500 with no hoops.

Samsung Galaxy a54 has AnTuTu: 506678 (v9)

Similar to the Note20 and 130,000 higher than the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G.

According to gsmarena

Huge difference in battery life comparison.

My Pixel 6a is a performance beast. Real world use is different to judge. I barely game. I would have to put phones side by side to get better judgement.

* I am actually typing on my samsung galaxy s6 lite tablet (released may 2020) and it has a exynos 9611. I am HUGE fan of the Samsung Galaxy s6 lite tablet. I have no doubt that I would like the exynos 1380 of the a54. I always use this tablet and it has so much life left.

I am cleaning the old Samsung A10e for a $200 Trade-In value.
It was purchased in 2019 @ $49 and mainly used as a game phone for my daughter's Lenovo Star Wars VR headset. (Yes, she does NOT play anymore.)
It is definitely a chance to trade old Samsung phones if you have it.

Not true at all. I have the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G (2020) and it still runs very fast and snappy. The Samsung Galaxy a53 5g has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Amazon (3,417 reviews) and it also has 4.3 out of 5 star rating on best buy. It is silly to assume that everybody needs a powerful BATTERY DRAINING processor. For regular users especially users who don't do any demanding gaming, the extra cost isn't worth it. You also need to remember this phone has a 6.4" screen. The regular Samsung Galaxy S22 has a smaller 6.1" screen and small 3,700 mAh battery so one needs to get the plus model and that costs lot more. I am currently using a pixel 6a with 6.1" screen and I definitely miss the large screen. I like the 6a phone because I think it has plenty of pros but my old Samsung had its pros too. Samsung performance was solid and it definitely wasn't a con.

* I am no rush to get rid of my Pixel 6a but if I do upgrade in the future, the Samsung Galaxy a55 (later gen) would be among my top 3 choices with maybe Pixel 8a (if they increase the screen size) or Motorola phone.
I actually just bought a used A71 5G on eBay for $140 a few days ago 9/10 condition. Compared to my S9 that I moved off of, this A71 performs just as well. No lags or freezes. On top of that, the battery is much bigger and the processor uses less energy.

Why there is NO option for A14 for trade-in? I saw A13 or A12, but no A14? Got it from Metro a while back. It would be a great deal if can trade in for A14.

My personal phone is S22+, and I have two A53s I purchased for my family members. All phones are on Android 13, Samsung non-carrier firmware. S22 is definitely a faster phone, but A53s are working without lag, with excellent battery life. I suppose if you're buying a phone for benchmarks or believe that you'll be constantly putting heavy load on CPU or graphics it might make sense to look for a phone with Snapdragon 8*, but otherwise I'd stick with a new A series device.

Haha. You must have lived under a rock and missed all the popular samsung galaxy a71 5g deals on slickdeals. Are you aware of the t-mobile samsung galaxy a71 5g deal that brought the out of pocket cost to around like $175 for me with an highly overvalued old broken iphone tradein?
.
Who pays retail? This is slickdeals.

https://slickdeals.net/f/14730953-t-mobile-128gb-samsung-galaxy-a71-5g-smartphone-free-w-qualifying-trade-in

Let me guess. You never heard of the popular unlocked moto z2 force $99 deals and think they are costing $720 launch price.

Who pays launch retail prices? This is slickdeals.
cool dude I got my S22+ for 40 bucks doesn't mean you just take whatever deal you had and apply to everyone

otherwise just get a last gen flagship on a nice offer still applies here.... don't waste money on a mid range when you can get a rando Tmobile flagship in exchange of a bag of chips somewhere

Iphone 14 is esim only. Selling like hotcakes
true, for iPhone 14s service providers have to support asap otherwise huge business loss for them. But not sure how fast they will add A54 esim support, specially MVNOs, and A series will be first time with esim.

I am trade in my Samsung phone. My phone have no cracks or dents on screen or back . No speaker or any battery issue. Only thing is it's power button is hard to press. Like you have to press it hard to turn on the phone. Will it be any issue in trade in? . Will it get rejected? If anyone have any experience ,please share.

I recently turned my A71 5g back on after about a year of not touching it. That phone feels extremely slow coming from a P6P and P7.

Technical question for the true experts. The A53 left my wish list due to the vulnerability in the chipset. Is this one safe? https://semiconductor.samsung.com...y-updates/ I understand this vulnerability is only possible with certain features enabled. Maybe a patch is forthcoming or already released? Buying a new phone and not being able to safely use VoLTE and wifi calling doesn't make sense for my usage scenario. Any advice is appreciated.Cool
