Has anyone installed the battery version but pair it with a solar option (either from Ring or third-party)? I wnat to install these for the sides of the house. Or should I go with the Ring Spotlight Cam/Cam Plus instead?

I'd go with a hardwired version any day of the week if you have that option, but I have one stick up exterior cam that has the Ring solar panel and it's been just fine.

That said, I get excellent battery life anyway - even indoor cams that seem motion all the time last for a few months between chanrgings.

Folks flip houses, they are not as obvious when people walk through the houses, get great notes on what people like/hate on the houses. We actually caught people stealing the staged knickknacks off coffee tables or shelves.

And this is why realtors tell clients to be careful about what's said during showings.

if you can, get the plug-in. With battery and solar-panel, the motion detection area has been greatly cropped in order to preserve the battery. This feature was rolled out during an ``update''. For me, that means that the sensor will only register movement when a person is 3 seconds away from my door Frown

I have these all around my house too and they work great. I didn't go with the Spotlight cam since mine are set off my animals since we're in the country, so that is personal preference if you want the spotlight. Ours would be going off like a lightning storm. Smilie

We have a goose that just laid eggs on our dock, so I put up a stick up cam right in front of the nest. I just bought a Ring solar panel from Woot so I wouldn't have to disturb her by changing the battery. It's been great so far. The camera was $45 on Woot and the solar panel was only $20 on Woot too. They also have the Spotlights if you want them too. I think the stickups are great around the house.

If you have the Echo Shows, the cameras work with them too. "Alexa, show me the Dock Camera" in case you don't always have you phone with you.

At these day in age, you shouldn't be getting anything 1080p. Go for 4k or at least the minimum 2k. Trust me it's a big difference in clarity especially for surveillance.

How well would something like this work for your front door? The location of my doorbell and a grab bar next to it mean a doorbell cam wouldn't work well for me. I want something I can set up on the porch so I can look at a live view to see who's out there if I hear something, and that would record automatically if someone stole a package off my porch or tried to break in.
It depends entirely on where you place it since they are very position based for view frame.

However I would not recommend ring products.

Which do you prefer? Blink, or something else?

I was able to select and check out with a Black Camera. Easier to hide in shadows, or interior book case

No problem with mine and I live in CT. Doesn't get *Crazy* cold here but certainly below freezing (was that your question?). Like any battery, performance could suffer when extremely cold.

This! If you don't care about your privacy then go with Ring
Just curious.... if the cops are trying to solve a crime why do I care if they access my recordings? Is there really an expectation of privacy outside of one's home? If somebody wants to view my cameras 24/7 why would I care? Watch the grass grow.....more power to you.

I have a spotlight cam with solar pointing at my driveway which runs off a battery. It's the same cam as a stick up but with 2 lights that go on with motion detection at night. The solar keeps the batteries charged and I'm sure the spotlight version takes way more power than a stick up version uses. If you buy the combo with solar they give you a nice mount for the solar panel too. Whoever said they nerf the area for motion detection must have something other than the current gen 3 version. I can set my battery cams with or without solar to cover any areas the camera can see, no problem. You get to choose via the software what zones trigger recordings. I've had absolutely no problem even with heavy use. I've been surprised how little the battery drains overnight (5% - 10%). I've never had my Ring cams be slow to connect or record either but they are all gen 3. Sometimes the servers take a minute to render the recording for viewing but that happens occasionally with both battery and hard wired Ring cams.

Thanks for the tip! You mentioned buying the solar combo; is it this one?

UPDATE:
Noticed that if I select the combo above (camera and panel), it doesn't qualify for the 10% discount for having a Ring Protect plan. But if I select just the camera alone, it works.

Is this the camera/solar combo mount that you mentioned? If I select the spotlifht cam plus and add this mount separately, it then qualifies for $15 off (for having the Ring protection plan). This may be the best route to go.

If you already have a ring protection plan you'll get an extra 10% at checkout during amazon. Worked for me just now. Thanks @kingchicken!
Noticed the 10% extra discount, for Ring Protect Plan, applies to the Spotlight Cam Plus but NOT with the solar panel combo option. WTF?
