I liked this keyboard but I went through three of them in a month. I think there's an issue with the wiring or grounding because they just kept dying. The switches aren't hot swappable either, so if one goes bad, throw out the whole keyboard. I'd recommend spending a little more money on something that's hot swappable and not this particular board.
Blue switches are almost always the cheapest across every brand out there.

They are the least popular lol

Noob question, What is PBT keycaps for? Does it make a different compared to the original keycaps of this keyboard?

Double shot PBT keycaps (in general) are of much higher quality than ABS keycaps like the ones on this HyperX. They are thicker, better sounding, better feeling, and are way less prone to show fingerprints/dirt/oil.

They also don't ever fade because it's actual translucent plastic creating the lettering instead of screen printing on the letters.

This is why I don't trust ABS keycaps. If it's cheap enough I'll still buy it.. but I've had a Corsair keyboard with ABS and the caps started fading after 3 months. I always wash my hands too. Their support tried to turn me down at first and claimed normal wear and tear lol.

I did end up getting a replacement keycaps from their support and those lasted much longer without fading at all.. so it's really just luck if they're gonna fade or not

No volume knob or I'd try it.
Anyone have a recommendation on a budget mechanical keyboard with a volume knob or slider?

What do you consider "budget"? Under $100?

I personally check Amazon Warehouse (used). You can find SteelSeries, Razer, EVGA, Corsair keyboards for 60-70% off. Plenty with volume control knobs. Yes, they are customer returns, but I have probably bought 30 keyboards over the years and have never had an issue.

Fantastic keyboard for the price. Aluminum body, detachable USB-C, RGB. Grab yourself a good set of PBT keycaps and you have a very solid prebuilt keyboard for an excellent price.

Any PBT caps you would recommend?

For something like this I would (and did) just get a cheap set of the Razer PBT keycaps. They are of pretty decent quality, and can be had for $25-30 new on Amazon.. or (if you don't mind) you can get a full set for $13-15 "used" (customer return) via Amazon (warehouse deals). Sounds gross to buy "used" keycaps, but I have probably bought 20 sets of keycaps used from Amazon and they all have come in original packaging, and are pretty much indistinguishable from new.

HyperX's own PBT pudding keycaps are on sale for $14.99 right now (brand new) on Amazon as well. I have never used those, so I cannot speak to their quality. But, I am sure they are much better than the ABS keycaps that are included.

You can honestly spend a crazy amount of money on PBT sets ($120+), but given that this is a solid but "budget" board, I wouldn't be doing that. Lol.
