You don't have to take my word for it, look at the Sequential Steady State Write Workload images a little over halfway down the page at https://www.tomshardwar
The Sandisk Extreme v2 is that steady red line that can write at ~850MB/s forever. The Samsung T7 is that line that craps out about 50 seconds into a write transfer, and that's generous because in real life usage, with a non-empty drive (my T7 is about half-full), I've seen even worse T7 performance. The Crucial X8 does great until about 3 minutes into a transfer, after which it's dead last and slower than most modern hard drives!
The SanDisk also comes with built-in encryption software and rugged water resistance, which some of the other drives don't have.
If you can wait though, give it another 3-6 months because SSD prices will likely keep falling. https://www.tomshardwar

$250 now; I think it's been $225 more than once.

I'd recommend it over buying a separate enclosure for an NVME drive, which would mean more parts that can fail. Plus probably lack of encryption software (you can also set it so that it remembers your computer so that automatically logs in, if you don't need encryption), and ruggedness/water resistance.

I have this model, it throttled down to 90MB/s once and was very hot to the touch.
Since then I only use it on my desktop right next to the case's top fan. No issues since then.
