Come on. Do not add pre-conditions to earn more. We are talking about no pre-conditions to earn 2% cash back on everything purchase and you just can't find the card to earn more. If you like conditions such as annual fee, member to open a bank account etc, that is a different thing. People may not like those conditions.

I've had this card for several months now and have charged tens of thousands of dollars to it. I have my bank info tied to this account on the app and when I went to make a payment today I got the message below. If they are going to force me to get a WF checking account, will no longer use this card and just switch back to AMEX.

Edit: you can call and make payments free of charge. They only allow four payments from non-WF accounts per month. This was my fifth time, so I guess that's not too bad. I'll just pay less frequently.

"You have reached the daily or monthly limit for the number of online payments to this account(s) made from a non-Wells Fargo account. Please make this payment using a Wells Fargo account or call 1-866-229-6633 to make this payment."

Pretty sure there have been several posts in this thread about limits on the number of payments allowed per month.

2 other good things about this card: up to $600 theft or damage phone insurance if you pay your phone bill with the card.

2% cash back on all purchases which is the highest you'll find anywhere else.

Talk about feeling old...
I looked at my messages here on slickdeals. Most were over a decade old.

Of course not and I'd argue that's leaving huge $ on the table. I've done 8 cards, $5,800 in bonus in the last 18 mos, and that's probably still novice achievement.

Curious if that strategy included debt accumulation. Hard to cross that many cards wo accumulating debt.

I missed that but I cashed many a AT&T, MCI, and other company long distance checks back in the late 90's.

I like the 2% cash back but do you still need a Wells Fargo checking or savings account to cash out your cash back balance? And is there still a minimum to be able to cash out?
I currently have Citi and they'll cash out to any external account and iir it's a very small minimum if any at all.

CreditKarma showed me with a "Good" chance of approval.

I was denied with 757 TransUnion, no late payments on anything, mortgage for almost 17 years, some student loans, no negative marks...

I called the customer service line and the guy was nice, but informed me all he could do was make sure underwriting knew everything was in good standing and would ask them to review for possible reconsideration. I got an email from them 20 minutes later confirming the denial. Fortunately, there was no second hard check, as the first one dropped my score 1 point. I'm guessing it's because I don't have other credit cards (have done everything through my wife's cards), but it seemed weird to me that they wouldn't want a customer with an obvious excellent history.

Reasons listed on the denial letter:
1. "Not enough accounts paid as agreed on your credit file (We look for a history of on-time payments)"
2. "No bank card history reported (We look for a history that shows how you've managed credit over time)"
3. "No non-authorized user bank cards reported (We look at the mix of credit you have)"
4. "No bank or retail credit cards or non-home equity credit lines reported recently (We look at the mix of credit you have)"

1. CreditKarma shows me with a 100% on-time payment history for everything...
2. My mortgage is almost 17 years old and my student loans are around 10 years old, all 100% on time, so you'd think it's obvious I've managed my credit well over time...
3 & 4. I think credit cards are the main kind of credit I'm lacking...which is why I applied for a credit card to improve the mix.

Any thoughts on improving this? For some reason, I'd never had my wife add me as authorized user, but we're doing that, though it specifically mentions "no non-authorized user cards..."

I'm a nurse and have gotten invites for the Ally 2% unlimited card, which seems basically the same as this card without the $200 bonus, so I'm thinking I'm just going to get that one, since it seems those are pre-approved invitations...

You got the most precise and detailed feedback I've seen, take it to heart and don't take it personally. Without a credit card or several at this point in your credit history you are an odd duck for credit card companies to trust.

Getting an invite is not the same thing as pre-approval. I would recommend looking for one of the many cards that are easier to obtain (marketed towards first time credit card applicants) rather than focusing on cash back percentage or sign up bonus. Those will be waiting for you.

Thanks for the reply. So, do those reasons essentially tell you the denial was the old "We won't give you a credit card because you haven't had enough credit cards."?

The Ally invitation does literally say "Exclusively for nurses. You're pre-approved." on it, so could they write that if I wasn't actually pre-approved? That seems like it would be unethical or illegal, since the hard check would drop the credit score of the person who was supposed to be pre-approved. I don't necessarily want to waste *another* hard pull. haha!
