Stack Social has $50 aloSIM Mobile Data Traveler Lifetime eSim Credit on sale for $24.99.

Thanks Staff Member MrsClause for sharing this deal

About this Product:
  • An eSIM is a digital SIM card. It's basically just mobile data. Once it's activated on your device, it can connect you to data networks in other countries – giving you an internet connection with NO roaming charges.
  • You'll get $50 in eSIM data credit, which is almost always enough to cover all your data roaming needs for a full year. But if you run out of data, you can always top up your lifetime eSIM and stay connected internationally.
  • With aloSIM, you can load prepaid eSIM data packages onto your phone, tablet, or computer.
  • Use your eSIM to join data networks in 120+ countries
  • Install your lifetime eSIM on a compatible device to roam on local data networks
  • Your lifetime eSIM never expires, and can be topped up with more data anytime
  • Many data packages cost as little as $4.50 and last 7 days. Depending on the package you choose, the length of time varies.

esimdb is a good website to research eSim plans around the world.

The European regions aren't that great, covering 4 countries (western europe), 6 countries (Mediterranean), and 11 countries (eastern europe), 3 countries (Scandanavia), and a UK/Ireland region.

I think Airalo has better regional coverage (Europe = 39 countries) at slightly higher prices if you're doing quite a bit of traveling.

From the few I've seen, prices are the same at Airalo on an individual country basis.

Personally I value keeping my US number active when I travel. Especially if you rely on text messages for 2-step verification. Fi also has excellent coverage in terms of countries it works in. I just transfer my number on eSIM from Visible to Google Fi before I travel and transfer back after the trip. It is mostly seamless, although on a couple of occasions I've had to deal with CS to complete the transfer.
We attempted to use Fi in Argentina this past May and it was crazy expensive and uses the same foreign carriers as T-Mobile. Getting a local SIM was MUCH cheaper than trying to use Fi. You can keep your home line active for text and calls and use the local SIM for data and local calls as needed.

Crazy expensive as in, ~$80 is ridiculously high for a cell phone plan anywhere in the world except US/Canada? I agree. Also agree that if you can get a local SIM that is definitely the way to go. For me local sims have gotten more challenging to use, thanks to Apple's genius decision to exclude a SIM tray from the latest iphones. On a recent trip to Australia I spent 2+ hrs at an Optus store trying to get eSIM to work on my 14 Pro. If I had a SIM slot I could have picked up a physical SIM at the airport in minutes and been on my way.

Does your phone need to be unlocked to use this? I got an Airalo esim card but it won't work on my phone since it is locked to the carrier.

The page mentions "Your lifetime eSIM never expires" several times but says nothing about credit expiration. Hmm 😑
It did.

"The data DOES expire, and you WILL NOT have any leftover data for your next trip unless it takes place within the validity period. "

Your phone absolutely needs to be unlocked. It has same restriction as a regular SIM.

If you don't need a lot of data, check out Dent Wireless. Regular Plans are good for 1 year and 70 countries. There's also a marketplace where you can buy other people's unused data for cheaper. For my Asia trip, I just bought 1gb for 110 days for $5.

Can someone explain how the activation process work?

"A day or so before you leave on a trip, select one of aloSIM's data packages and install the eSIM (digital SIM card) on any compatible device. Then when you arrive at your destination, activate your package to start using the data. aloSIM has data packages priced as low as $4.50 for a week of data. The eSIM itself never expires, so you can add more data packages anytime, whether it's on this trip or for a future trip."

Does the eSIM gives free roaming access for activation or do you need Wi-Fi at the destination in order to activate?

On the other hand, it seems that if you don't use a lot of data and plan on spending less than 1 month oversea in the next 12 months. It is still cheaper to just buy their plans on demand than this $50 credit. As 30 days plan with 10GB is often less than US$20. I don't know if tax and fees are added.

I ordered mine on Amazon. Search for Orange Spain. Looks like the price went up slightly, but you can see the seller's website from there. From the sellers website, you can order the eSIM. I Spanish SIM worked great in Germany and Iceland.
Hi, can you activate the eSIM here in the US without being in Spain?

Edit looks like it (tourtech(dot)shop) can be activated remotely. Personally, when traveling I see plans under $15 to have around 5 GB of data for a week or so, but at least this 30 euro plan has 25 gigs of EU data.
Can I activate and install the eSIM before I travel?
It is indeed possible and customers from the US have reported that that they did not encounter any problem while roaming on AT&T network.

Nevertheless, we recommend scanning the QR code, received after activation, when you are in Spain / Europe.

Note: this operation (QR scanning / eSIM setup on the mobile device) can be done only once.

When customers use Spanish eSIM/SIM cards outside of Spain (or any other card outside of the home network), the technical support options are always more limited.

FYI MintMoble text and calls work over wifi when another SIM is set as primary for Data.

Interesting. How can I see the pricing? Any activation fees? What are the 70 countries? Seems Japan is not included? I don't want to install their app to find out.

Also want to know their roaming partner.
