Is there an expiration on the tickets and gift card?
You must have bought special tickets. I have had black tickets for years and always had to pay the surcharge
At the nice theaters in Atlanta , a non-matinee weekend adult ticket can be $19 for non-3D. This is a huge savings in many cities like mine and others , where tickets can cost even more.

They changed the tickets recently. When they did these at the beginning of the pandemic they sold them as tickets to any showing. I bought a 10 pack and finally used a couple last spring to see Dr strange in IMAX with a friend. I went to use 6 of them for another IMAX movie this winter and suddenly there is a surcharge. Clearly I don't see a lot of movies, but I'll never see one at AMC again. Thankfully I have a few other options, including Emagine.

IMAX movies have always had a surcharge with passes, and it makes perfect sense. The regular price for IMAX is more expensive than a regular ticket.

Theaters were hurting during the pandemic and probably accepted passes when they shouldn't have. Or you just had a lazy employee that day. You likely saved $10+ per ticket if you value the concessions at full price.

What's the difference between the black and yellow? Just that yellow can't be used in the listed states?

It is if you're a stub member and you stick to Tuesdays only. Otherwise it's a good deal.

What is an AMC Yellow
Ticket? Yellow tickets are exactly the same as black tickets, except they cannot be used in California, Nevw York, or New Jersey. But they cost less! Valid: Can be used for any standard format film at any AMC Theatre in most US states, excluding California, New York, and New Jersey.
