the most important q is
IS the ram upgradable
if not its worth sub 200 dollars. as they are basically chromebooks
This is the most retarded thing I've read all day, thank you.
The RAM is not upgradable which is to be expected at this price point. That being said, it's DDR5 and the faster one of its kind, not 4800MHz, nor 6400MHz either, but 5500MHz.

Essential is HP's bottom of the lineup. For the purposes this would be purchased, 8GB is more than enough.
Also, why don't you find me a laptop with these specs for sub-$200?
Maybe try knowing a thing or two about laptops before baselessly commenting.

Somehow they managed to cut the graphics power in half of the AMD 5300U. I don't understand why they did that because the old one isn't that powerful to begin with.

At this price, bad deal, even if you're ok with the non-upgradable RAM. The spec belong in <$300 notebooks. Around $250. AMD is targeting Intel Atom with this CPU and the pricing did not reflect that.

We've had a few 12th gen i3 laptops at around $300 and I would pick that any day.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank 02nz

Don't be fooled that this is a "Ryzen 7000 series" processor. The third digit indicates this is a Zen 2 processor (like the 4000 series and some of the 5000 series). Performance is adequate but lower than a 4500U [cpubenchmark.net] from 3 years ago.

On multicore and pure i/o things, almost surely, though the DDR5 is likely helping the 7320U out in real world performance. Ryzen really loves the fast memory.

The faster RAM would make the biggest difference in graphics performance, but then it's moot because they neutered the APU here.

dont matter its worthless other than chromebook. tell manufacturers to stop soldering the ram else bare min for windows is going to be 16gb IDGAF about their cost cutting.

copy apple some more.
kuf around and find out.
It's really not. I have a Windows 11 laptop with 8, runs great for what I use it for. Mostly browsing and streaming, some light gaming and basic office stuff, few other light tasks. Boots up in like 5-10 seconds. That said, I probably wouldn't pay $350 for one with max of 8. Mine cost $200 and supports more.

I see 'essential' is the new buzzword to use instead of 'barebones'.

also upgradable ram used to be at all levels and price points not just 500+ dollars only nubs that got used to manufacture planned obsolescence are accepting higher price with low functionality upgradability and repairability.

if they want us to buy non upgradable computers they better lower the price much more than they expect to make. the reason for these massive discounts is because they are worthless to anyone that knows anything about computers.
that's why they cannot sell them now.

Sorry better to donate to charity and take tax write off.
I'm sorry there is not a microcenter within driving range for you.
