I had a similar wifi extender before I got the mesh system. But the extender I had worked well! The internet reached all the way to the other side of the house. However, it did tend to slow down when more devices were connected to the extender.

Def helps w dead zones in the house and for $7 worth a try

My experience as well. The real solution most people are looking for is a mesh system. This is a decent low budget option that can solve for dead zones or limited range. The other problem with it is that it can cause devices to "skip" when changing between the networks. Mesh is superior in every way except price.

mesh system is better, right?
wifi extender would slow the download and upload speeds down to 30% - 50%.

I have used a lot of range extender in my time, Netgear definitely has some of the best out there so for this price if you just need to extend some wifi to a dead zone, this is a no brainer.

what the skip mean?
Do they share the same 2.4 or 5ghz network name as the main network?

If you have a dead spot try this. Worked for me. If it doesn't work you are out 7 bucks

BTY if you are range extending you will want to do it on the 2.4 not the 5 band. 5 has limited range so by the time it gets to the extender it is a trickle.

I have netgear mesh, nothing but headache so far since I moved to a different locations. Someone told me it's due to ISPs modem's built in router thst messes things up. I bought thr mesh from Costco, it's netgear nighthawk router with 2 satellites. Things randomly die and range from mesh satellites is nothing crazy. I wish I could get more mesh satellites or combine to see if it helps. I am planning to run ethernet Cable through my siding outdoors and maybe use some other routers.
