I don't know anything about these speakers really, but the sensitivity is really low. 82.5 and 84.5 respectively. (When you take into account the ratings of 85.5 and 87.5 at 2.83V@1m and that they're 4 ohm…you subtract 3db to make the rating 1w@1m which is the apples to apples comparison with the majority of other speaker makers) You'll need a big amp to get loud volume and for these to sound their best…

Having experience with them I would agree.
Doesn't make sense to spend more on power than the speakers.

You would be better off to go after their THX models when on sale.
Would make the extra power somewhat worthwhile.

Whether you prefer/like their sound is the other obstacle to cross.

Nobody is nitpicking. They are pointing out real issues. If you get these expecting to power then with a low end receiver you will probably end up disappointed. Theres no real solution either because low end receivers don't have pre outs so an external amp isn't an option.

Impedance is very often misquoted. It is not a single value. It varies based on frequency and not all manufacturers report this value in the same manner.

Heck yeah, slickdeals! I found this speaker deal here but I was hesitant to pull the trigger. People's comments about needing a damn good receiver to drive these monsters concerned me a lot. I have an old Denon receiver that's over 10 years old and it's a low-end model.

Finally, I decided to give it a shot. After all, it's less than $150, you can't beat the price.

I ordered a pair and they were shipped out the next day and delivered within 4 days. That's amazing speed!

I opened the box and was immediately impressed with the solid quality. The surface is shiny and clean, and they're pretty heavy to carry around. I disconnected my old small shelf speakers and connected them with these big monsters. Boom, the sound came out and I was overjoyed with the sound effects. The pitch is clear and clean, and the volume is very strong. I had to lower it a bit, otherwise, it was too loud (I put them into a basement home theater space). With a big screen TV, this pair of speakers is going to make movie night anytime I want an absolute blast.

At this price, this is a steal. I am satisfied with this deal.

I don't know about these, but Danny over at GR Research on YouTube gave the THX Monoliths high praise for measuring pretty damn amazing and out of the box. There are price caveats, yes, but the THX models are not a bad way to go.
