Yes, sorry forgot to mention that in OP. Fixed it now though.
You don't need to mention it in title

Solution. Look elsewhere. No need to worry you are being price gouged. Saved you time.
Can you apply the same logic to your comment?

This and even more so the $300 256/M1 lets you in on an open secret of what 8gb of RAM is good for - even now, let alone what it'll be like using this RAM-crippled mac in a year or two. I'm waiting for an m2 16 mini and 32 macbook to upgrade to. Yes, I'm a multitasker and I need it. No, you don't have to disagree with me here, if you "feel" that *you* don't

So the $500 mini to this $690 mini "upgrade" gets you a larger 512GB SSD, and that's it?
Yes, that is correct. It buys you ~$20 worth of storage capacity and restores the storage performance that the lower capacity model lost between M1 and M2.

Thanks, Tim Apple! What great advice to ignore bad deals on a deals site based on voting and user comments for reported deals!

It's still expensive. 32gb ram is new normal in 2023 and beyond. My macAir uses 13-15gb constantly. I use a lot of tabs. 16gb is the minimum requirement right now. apple is always cheap when it comes to storage and memories.

Just FYI for serious shoppers:
I have been using base model M1 air daily for over a year. I am able to easily Multitask, including Photoshop, and small Final Cut Pro projects, all at the same time. Those complaining about 8gb ram on these machines a) have never used one (M1 or M2) , or b) have way too high expectations of a base model Mac.

Not bad for Apple cost of $2 for the SSD chip, eh.

I have both the m2 pro and m1 pro laptop and I can tell you 8GB is inadequate hence why I paid the Apple bounty because is 3-4 years the apps will grow and I will come to regret it. Just two of my apps take 6 GB so 8 GB isn't going to cut it. Of course for your use case it is not needed today but perhaps in a few years IDK.

I find it odd that people defend Apple's 2015 RAM and SSD specs as good enough when it cost Apple $2 for a 256 GB SSD chip and $20 for 8 GB of DDR5 RAM. But that is how they make money: no expandability and 20-100x profit margin to get to 2023 specs.

Joke's on you, you need a mac to prepare the installation. Pointless effort, its a hassle since MacOS doesnt come or have support for random accessories/parts.

This is facetious and you knew exactly what you were doing by phrasing this comment in that manner.

"Small Final Cut Pro projects", just be transparent and admit any video rendering will brick m1 mini until project completion. Its good for light multi tasking for non games, browsing, charts.

Anything more is requiring more than machine could handle at 8gb ram.

Daily user going on over 2 years.

Unless you need M2 for very specific task (Plex server?) this is way overpriced. 8GB shouldn't be allowed as base in 2023. 16GB is bare minimum today for all modern OS with exception of ChromeOS and some very light Linux distros. Any modern Mac or Windows (the 99%) need 16GB as the OS eats up half that alone! People who continue to defend 8GB amuse me. Stop simping for one of the richest companies on planet earth.

literally telling you exactly what I am doing, and you say "just be transparent" - hahahah!
I'll be more transparent for the skeptics.
I am a tech teacher with 25 base model M1 airs in my classroom. Students do 5-10 minute video projects each week using FCPX, Photoshop, and multiple web browsers (all running at the same time). I have never seen problems rendering...ever...in 2 years.

Video editing is very complex. Of course if you are doing major projects with 4K or higher, and using 3rd party plugins, you would experience lag on a base model. Most people asking questions about these machines are not needing this much horsepower. So I offer my actual experience with the machines.

"admit any video rendering will brick m1"
Seriously, have you actually ever used a M1 or M2 Mac? Why are these machines so popular if this is true? Go back to your bitter little world.

Keep in mind that, with Apple, you pay for everything (i.e., the product(s), product development, their shareholders).
(Simply put, when you pay for everything, it better be good!)

And, from their point of view, that's the beauty of it.
(For Apple, your money means huge margins and very low risk.)

For having it wired that way, you have to give Apple credit!
(If you want more memory, you'll have to pay up, sucker!)
