100W solid state amp with onboard effects vs a simple 15W tube amp with spring reverb.

The Katana is far more versatile. Tube amps are much more one or two flavors, but they are neat.

If you have a teenager (or inner child) wanting to start a garage band, you could do worse than this combo and one of those Monoprice guitars like the Indio that is on sale right now.

Pretty low cost of entry to rock these days, and you can build on these choices with pedals, guitar upgrades, etc.
