I have what I presume to be the previous genery. Not a bad little box, especially for the price. I've used several different higher-priced android TV boxes in the past although I've mostly switched to Roku apps, when available. Because of that, I don't push this box too hard and maiinly use it for Kodi, which it seems to handle just fine.

It's too bad that it doesn't have a USB port for external storage but I'm not complaining, as these are well worth the price.
There is an easy way to extend the memory on this. Just get a micro usb y splitter cable and you now have an extra full size USB A port to play with

For $15 more the fire stick 4k max is a much value. Supports Dolby vision, wifi 6
Right now, Fire TV 4K Max sells for around $55 so it's not $15 more. I know Amazon drops the price to $35 every, now and then but right now that difference is $35
Secondly, one should have Wifi 6 router and DV supported TV unit to get benefits of these features.
Thirdly, performance of Fire TV has degraded over time. It was fast when it was brand new but now it feels laggy.
Fourthly, at $20 it gives you around 80% of the feature that premium devices offer, so it has great price to value ratio.

My fire tv max he been running just fine over the past year, define degradation? Accumulated cache from apps? If so then this will definitely experience that as well. And yeah I see it for $35 more often than not whether it's new and the refurb unit is $40 at the moment. It's future proof to have DV, I'm guessing most people browsing this forum have one or plan on getting one in next year with black Friday sales. Wifi performance is also better on firetv max

I wish there was one with more storage. Think that might happen?

I have this for my projector for 2 years and it's been working great.

It's easy to side load third party apps than FireStick.

BS is b.s. when it comes to inventory. There's no need to post it here anymore.

I would rather die than use Fire TV or Roku again.

The simple syncing of everything I do to my Google or Apple account for Google TV & Apple TV, which then has combined continue watching cross-device and how a quick "add to watchlist" for anything in Google on my phone immediately shows up on my TV

It's heaven.

My Chromecast with Google TV is 2.5 years old since launch now and it has Dolby Vision.

does this ONN one not?

if not that's how they're saving $$ over anything else

This is a junk device. So many better options. They get very very hot
I can't speak to non-Google sticks but my Chromecast gen1, gen2, Chromecast Ultra, and my CCwGTV all get very hot but run flawlessly.

They're supposed to get hot

Got one of these a year ago (old version?) no complaints except you need the original TV remote to change source but supposedly that's a limitation of all these devices.

Actually, Fire TV stick supports Dolby Vision and Atmos. Your TV unit has to support this format and you should be playing DV content from Netflix or Disney.
If you have Samsung TV, then it would only Support HDR10 or later depending upon how latest your TV unit is
Important note:

Samsung TVs have HDR10+ on top of HDR10. Annoying to nitpick but it's important lol

Any TV with "HDR" has at least HDR10 (no plus sign). The fallback static metadata for basic HDR

DV & HDR10+ are for dynamic and more.

Samsung held in there and HDR10+ is supported all over now

Does it have spyware like this Android TV?
https://youtu.be/1vpepaQ-VQQ
Nope, because this is due to people buying random crap I've never heard of on Amazon or Alibaba.

That video's description points to legit devices. The NVIDIA Shield, Google branded TV, etc are fine.

This ONN should also be fine because a device is supposed to be certified further to have license to be "Google TV".

Android is open source and anyone can make a fake Android TV with malware and sell it to you if you are a sucker I guess.

I've never known anyone in real life buy any of these products that have malware etc

Doesn't look like it.. But hopefully they worked on air flow. Had to take one of the covers off of mine to stop it from overheating.
What are you using yours for? I've had mine for 1.5 years and have used it for hours on end without any overheating problems. It gets warm to the touch but so do most electronics when they're being used.
