    Ultimate slick deal: go to your local retail pharmacy and ask if they can order a 300 count bottle directly from their supplier. If so, it comes to about $5.00 each time. Note that not all pharmacies allow this (it can vary within a chain as well) but it is perfectly legal and it is within the discretion of the pharmacy manager.

    Pharmacy personnel will refer you to the shelf product but specifically ask for the "OTC stock bottle from their supplier if available." I am a pharmacy manager and I do this for my patients all the time

    It's not recent. It's been studied and reported decades ago and it showed the link to first generation antihistamines like Benadryl.

    These are third generation antihistamines and for example, Loratadine showed same results as placebo.

    If anyone has questions they should consult their doctor - and not a SD forum.

    People react differently to these antihistamines, one brand/type might work better for me but not for you and the other type that doesn't work as well for me might work better for you. With that said Allertec works best for me, next Allerclear, and Allegra does not work at all.

    Many suffer from chronic hives for which you need to be on Xolair (a prescription shot) along with this Loratadine (10 mg) taken daily (upto 1 - 4 tabs/day) depending on the severity.

    Not saying I don't believe you, but Claritin has never worked for me, I've tried it multiple times through the years and had severe allergies each time as though I didn't take a pill that day. Allerclear is the only one that works, probably placebo effect, I'm not sure.

    I have allergy in the spring. So I need about 15 pills a year to get me thru. Currently, I am still using the first bottle I bought with expiration date 03/16. Works every time and I figure I only need to buy another one for the rest of my life!

    Cats (we have 3), dust, and every season has something. My allergist said "you're allergic to every season", when I was tested again not long ago. They're not as severe as when I was a kid, where I would get swollen eyes and hives and more, but they are annoying.

    Though the big allergy seasons in Spring and Fall are the worst.

    Generics works better for you than brand. That is great! ApplauseApplauseApplauseApplause Maybe it is the fatwallet effect (or slickdeal effect) since generics cost less than brand name.

    From taking medicine's perspective, they are all bioequivalent, ie, exactly the same in the eye of FDA. Otherwise, they can't even market it. Allerclear is Kirkland generic for Claritin.

    A name isn't the only difference between brand vs generic. FDA only requires a generic version to have the same active ingredient. It doesn't police inactive ingredients. While differences in inactive ingredients usually do not cause significant differences, it can in rare cases. In the case of Claritin vs Allerclear, there is actually one inactive ingredient in Allerclear that can explain sirchocula's experience. Allerclear contains povidone, ophthalmic antihistamine, that is used to treat eye irritation. Claritin doesn't. So, if sirchocula's main allergic symptom focuses on eye irritation and or if they are more sensitive to povidone, it's possible that sirchocula would find Allerclear more effective than Claritin.
