Last sale I bought the 30W head and cabinet set and it is pretty good for the price. They have just the cabinet back in stock, after coupon its about $168 which is about the going rate for just the Vintage 30 speaker alone - https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=611899

On the older model of this amp the controls were on the top. Does anyone know if anything else in the design was changed along the way? The reverb unit, maybe?

Great tube amp. I would recommend this at $250 easy. In the Blues Jr. ballpark. It's different than a Blues Jr, but if you want a tube amp for cheap, this is great.

This is not a high-gain amp, so you're not getting "Metallica tone" out of it. It is however a terrific medium gain amp and with a lower gain V1 like a 5157 it makes a terrific clean platform. I've gigged mine many times playing country, r&b, classic rock, alternative, blues and more.

It has an EQ... My friend bought one and it is the only amp he uses anymore (has a fender 2x12 and a katana). Crank the gain and it gets some awesome tube distortion, but more crunchyfatgrungy than shred. Change the EQ a bit with a little reverb and it has some good caramel blues tones. Little more reverb and drop some mids and it puts out a great Rickenbacker/old Radiohead tone. Can't beat it for the price. Maybe not even twice the price.

Really decent 15W amp based on the Laney Cub circuit. Nice Fenderish tone with type of breakup that you get from a tube. Great with pedals. I went from the Yamaha THR10 to this and it was a big step up in playing enjoyment.

Me too, installed JJ tubes 6 months later and it sounds even better now, BEST deal out there for a cheap tube amp, so if you're on a budget, this is the one you want!

Thank you for posting! A friend and I just ordered one each.
I didn't have a combo amp and I figure it will be a lot nicer to lug this around than my orange rockerverb 100 and 2x12 if I want to take it over to a buddies house.

I believe it comes with JJ tubes included now, as well as an upgraded spring tank. I ordered one last year and it came with both upgrades. I was planning to upgrade my tubes because I had seen people recommend it, so I was very surprised to see the JJ branded tubes installed when it arrived.
