Well, that is true and probably satisfies most people, for people using unRAID, you eventually run into having too many drives if you DON'T upgrade to the larger size as you are stuck with only 2x parity if bad shit happens.

And stop asking what I need that storage for. It was a very sad day when my boat capsized with all of my 4K BluRay movies and Linux distro aboard. Total loss... I need a hug.
goharddrive currently has 14tb WD and Toshiba for 109.99, they were 99.99 a few weeks ago which is probably the all time low.

The 14's from goharddrive have NOT had the SMART data reset so you actually know the number of hours of use and whether or not there are any SMART errors. When the SMART data has been reset like most of these from ServerPartDeals, you really know nothing about the drive. Fortunately, both places allow returns and I suspect there is no real difference between one vendor and the other.

edit, the WD are out of stock at goharddrive, Toshiba still available.
Good deal. Just got 4 drives from them a couple days ago and so far after testing 3 of them no errors at all

Yes. It uses a regular sata connector.

I use two 12 TBs of this series running, Raid 1 in a 2 Bay Nas and a 14TB in a desktop for several months now.

I also use HD Sentinel to monitor my drives
And I run Seatools, free download, to run a short and pretty slow long test as soon as I get them. I think they offer free return shipping if you get a dud for the first 30 days.

just out of curiosity ... does any run a diagnostic scan on any of their manufacturer refurbished drives?
i'd recently purchased 3 WD HE530 14TB from serverpartdeals and slapped them right into my DS920+ as SHRs.
i'd totally forgot to scan them like typically do for new WD red pro's.

does the refurbishing process clear out bad blocks?

inputs appreciated.

I did this time around but didnt the last batch. If you have a day it doesnt hurt to scan them first for potential RMA

More expensive per tb than the 12TB $105 X18s though, so those are still the best bang for the buck.

The X16 is also available for the same price. I don't know that one model is better than the other. The X18 is a newer model with higher platter density. Where, the X16 is a slightly older model with lower density. Backblaze has 20,000 of this exact X16 model installed and it has one of the lowest failure rates among the Seagate models they are using.

I think it is. Everything is dropping but the 12s have been at 105 for awhile. The 16tbs were $13 more last time they went FP.

Manufacter Recert are not touched by serverpartsdeals, they are refurb by Seagate and sealed. I bought two drives from them factory sealed so this is not going to have silly business with it.

I was wondering when another SPD post would be promoted. Its been a few days.
